That’s because Parko didn’t coward punch Carlton’s and the VFL’s Best First year player in a meaningless exhibition game or put 4 defenders on our Full Forward in a game to prevent him kicking 100 goals when they were already 10 goals up.
Now that was an absolute dog act.

I do wonder if he really has a passion for coaching or would be just using us to top-up his super.

Seems to be accepted (at least in the media) he is the best coach in the business but not sure he would be the best for us. Just looks like we would be going down the Malthouse path again.
I like to compare sports around the world to us sometimes, and what stands out often is the head coach; many successful clubs with head coaches who have been there for eons:

Man U and Ferguson = 26 yrs
Patriots and Belichik = 21 yrs (and 25yrs apprentice)
Saints and Peyton = 16 years (my bias there)

The stand out feature is maturity in the whole of club. We place far too much emphasis on one individual, and think we can replace that one role when things don't go well and success will follow.

If you're a mature club you likely have past success, current stability, you have swagger and $, and you use all that to keep bringing in talent across the board.

Personally I've hated the Clarko because he almost killed Aitken, wore the poo and wee colours, and beat up on junior umpires. But if he comes to Carlton? Hell yeah.

The issue is, can we handle him? ie. provide that stability, that ongoing smooth turnover of staff and players that keeps excellence going?

Great post, everyone needs to be on the same page and I believe i have already read on here that Clarkson would be hesitant to come to Carlton due to the administration side of the club still being a bit messy

I’m a stat man kind of. And you could argue, if you’ve been at a club for a long time the odds could go into your favour of just “be in it to win it”

Easy to forget that man u were on the verge of sacking Ferguson early on on the piece. Very very close, to the extent that the common sentiment was that if they had have lost one key game he was gone.

Belichek was extremely lucky that his team picked up the greatest player ever at pick 199 in the draft with 6 other quarterbacks taken before him. Having the best quarterback is the equivalent of having a gun ruckman, midfielder and full forward all in one in tetms of importance. Without him the patriots in all likelihood would have done nothing.

Just shows that there are fine margins between success and failure in all sports. Hoping that we can be on the successful side of some of those small margins in the near future.

We've gone backwards since late 2019, despite gaining Martin, Betts, Pittonet, Newnes, Fogarty, Saad, Williams and even Docherty.

That speaks for itself.
We need a quality A grade midfielder. It has been so obvious all year. We have a distinct lack of leadership. There are far too many followers on this list. Not enough go-getters who go out and make their own luck. Been watching it all year. As soon as things start going wrong they drop their heads and try and hide or fake a limp. We have to get rid of these players irrespective of their supposed ability.

Eg..Look at Jones. He was on his last legs, and came out and reinvented himself and yes he makes mistakes, but he is not afraid to take chances. I would prefer to see 100 mistakes from people trying something, rather than players just going thru the motions.

True
Through mistakes comes learning
Being Scared of making mistakes takes you no where

I had to laugh with the AFL website claiming Brodie Kemp being in line to make his debut with the news of Jones' injury. There is absolutely no way an injury to Jones gives rise to a call up opportunity for Kemp. Kemp can get in on his own right by omitting others. I wonder if a cooked Levi will be stationed in defence.

It might if it causes a reshuffle down back. Weitering as the rock, Plowman to take on the responsibility of playing against a bigger opponent, with Kemp (or Parks) slotting into his usual role.

hesitant to put Plow on a bigger opponent. Gets out muscled far too easily and Georgiadis / Ladhams will have a field day on him.

No.

Agreed. Ideally we wouldn't even have to consider it but with an injury list as long as ours it might just have to do for a week or two.

We don't exactly have many options available to us right now.

Yes?
