I had to laugh with the AFL website claiming Brodie Kemp being in line to make his debut with the news of Jones' injury. There is absolutely no way an injury to Jones gives rise to a call up opportunity for Kemp. Kemp can get in on his own right by omitting others. I wonder if a cooked Levi will be stationed in defence.
It might if it causes a reshuffle down back. Weitering as the rock, Plowman to take on the responsibility of playing against a bigger opponent, with Kemp (or Parks) slotting into his usual role.
Kemp's been playing key defender since the game after his VFL debut. He'd be 192-193 and 88-90 kilos.

He's been in good form, and he's the correct player to bring in.

We need a quality A grade midfielder. It has been so obvious all year. We have a distinct lack of leadership. There are far too many followers on this list. Not enough go-getters who go out and make their own luck. Been watching it all year. As soon as things start going wrong they drop their heads and try and hide or fake a limp. We have to get rid of these players irrespective of their supposed ability.

Eg..Look at Jones. He was on his last legs, and came out and reinvented himself and yes he makes mistakes, but he is not afraid to take chances. I would prefer to see 100 mistakes from people trying something, rather than players just going thru the motions.
Will there be any respite from your constant whining once the coach has gone? Or is it likely to get even worse?

He was the correct player to bring in about 3 weeks ago to play as the third tall which plow is no good at -- let plow lock down and kemp play third tall with limited pressure -- this whole thing has been a cluster $&@) .. but let it be a blip year next year is the jump -- go baggers

And that’s part of the problem. Why don’t we develop what we have?
Macreadie was perennially injured, Ben had a shoulder reco or two.

Not sure of the drive on both. Maybe they didn’t really want it?

Where are they now? I think Ben is playing at Preston and Macreadie might have gone back to the country? Not sure we missed anything by letting the two of them go.

Our development has hardly been top shelf but on the flip side not everyone makes it and some will never succeed, even in the best systems.

Further on Ben, I think it was reported last year he subluxed his shoulder soemthing ridiculous like 8 times throughout the year, dunno how AFL stable a shoulder like that ks

not sure it's a deliberate decision by the club to "not develop"..............

Fair enough I suppose, but then take it a step back and it’s recruiting? Or something more fundamental like culture? I say it’s a combination of all. Hence the review.
As for Ben S and Macreadie, they didn’t make the grade but who were they replaced with, Parks?
Of course no one recruiting or developing young players sets out to fail but the results so far have been very poor.
As I’ve pointed out in the past we have 18 of 36 players on our primary list that were first drafted by us or another club, yet after all but gutting the list 6 years ago we are 14th on the ladder with 2 games to play.
Whether the failure lays in development or recruiting I think it is a shocker to sit where we are.
Finally, I understand that our injury list has been diabolical but when we started our season we had the highest number of unavailable players bar Freo. Is that just bad luck?

Also someone who's had over a dozen subluxes and a couple of discloations split across both shoulders I can say stability is an issue, particularly above the head, at least for me who's outside of a professional sporting environment. Didn't just affect the shoulder itself, but also the tendons and ligaments surrounding, including some damage to the outer part of the pectoral. Everything became loosey-goosey, and the ball moved in the socket. They still click, as the ball 'grips' the socket and rolls up before 'dropping' back into position.

Our development has been pretty trash. I's early days but does feel like the tide is turning under watch of Power & O'Keefe.

I can see the logic behind cutting those two (& Goddard) and bringing in Parks & later McDonald, thinking that between Weitering, Jones, Levi can play key def, then hopefully Marchbank would be back and he could play up a weight division if need be (similarly Plow and Gov) and there's Kemp developing. Unfortunately Levi's knee has been cooked for 18+ months, Marchbank had a setback, Gov did the mother of all hamstrings, Kemp had the syndesmosis injury, Plow got suspended for a bit and had his own injury... and ultimately the right move was always to at least add one other key-def-capable player to the list. Ruck/fwd a similar situation.

Hopefully Jones' knee injury isn't a bad one and he's 100% by round 1. Regardless, we need to be considering adding to our KPP stocks, maybe a ****/fwd and a FB/CHB as a starting point.

I get palpitations just reading the above. If it was a rocket heading into orbit you wouldnt like your chances of returning home safely. ;)

Not saying I agree with the approach they took, just saying I understand the reasons why they went that way. Definitely need to add to those KPP areas this offseason.
Yeah I know, just makes you marvel (and a tad envious) at clubs like Geelong and Sydney among others who seem to barely touch the draft and yet hit their trade targets more often than not with out a discernible drop in performance.

had a quick look, I think Sydney have drafted 35 players in the last 5 years. 17 ND, 11 rookies, 6 cat b rookies and 1 SSP. CBF doing Geelong or us as a comparison, but that's a reasonable bit of turnover from Sydney's end.

Anyone else think it's a bit stinky that Carlton is against gambling but for pokies? Strange.
I thought there was a plan in place to move away from pokie revenue? Unfortunately it's hard to replace that kind of revenue quickly. I'd like to think now that we've cleared the historical debt that it will become more of a focus (figging fat fingers, I nearly typed ficus).

Did I miss a new development, or is it just that it hasn't happened yet?

hesitant to put Plow on a bigger opponent. Gets out muscled far too easily and Georgiadis / Ladhams will have a field day on him.
He did ok on Ratugolea when we played Geelong. I’d send him to Marshall who’s not exactly a beast.
