We brought MM in for all the wrong reasons, he then ensured he moved on a tight group of "lads", Betts, Garlett and Robbo. Waite also a casualty due to similar reasons.

As for Murphy, not sure I would have gone down the path he did with the MM comments. Great player in his prime, but not someone I would view as an inspirational leader

Malthouse is actually the appointment which proves it is all about support structures. Yes, he might have been over the hill. But he came in with a record of a Premiership and Grand Final in his two previous coaching seasons. You don’t just lose that altogether.

And for those in the Ratten camp, he proves it as well. The barrel of talent was so shallow he ended up picking Marcus Davies

two years later that old BS artiste had dismantled everything.

I think everyone agrees the support and the list were lacking. Murph himself said that he thought the club should have invested more in support for Ratten and that we didn't quite have the depth you'd expect of top sides.

Reckon all of that can be true and we can still acknowledge that the Malthouse appointment was the exact wrong decision.

Mick Malthouse, coached 4 clubs his record is not glowing 30 years plus in the caper 3 premierships. Not the stuff of legend. Footscray, wet toast, Slum dwellers and Carlton.

3 flags and 4 losses in 30 years, I’d love it if our club could make 7 grand finals in the next 30 years, it’s a bloody good effort.

West Coast and Collingwood made Malthouse a raging success, Carlton made him a raging failure. We have had 20 years of problems with a blinkered view that only sees the coach. Slowly we have pulled ourselves out of this mess with a new wholistic view of things, at least that is what we are lead to believe. The past is the past, let's hope we learn from our mistakes.

A long history of picking coaches and breaking them. Not backing them and supporting them. I think with our new president and CEO things should be different.

I have no idea whether he is a flog or not (God I hate that term) However he certainly lacks insight / critical analysis of what he comes across. Not an enjoyable listen that's for sure when on the radio.
