I’ll say it again Sam Mclure is a flog of the highest order.Predicting who can and can’t win a flag in the next 5 years.

“Just an opinion he says”

Spare me.

I'm not much of a fan of him. He would have to be one of the worst Carlton supporters in the media. Rarely has anything positive to say about us. Perhaps he's overcompensating so as not to seem biased, but I put very little weight behind anything he says that's Carlton related.

I don’t want him to say anything that’s the thing.

His employers probably do though. Best option is to avoid anything he says if he triggers you like that. I avoid Cornes and Robbo for those reasons.

Honestly, there’s been very little positive that has happened at the club for 20 years.
We now have a long history of disappointment and failure - any media pundit, even if they are a Carlton supporter, would not be doing their job if they were not somewhat sceptical about season 2022 being different to those in recent memory.

He, along with Niall would be the best connected in relation to our footy club & the sad reality is that for the majority of many of our lives we've been a basket case, on and off-field, it'd be unusual if someone was spouting anything overly positive on a consistent basis.
If it's optimism that you're after, Soapy V is your man.

So, due to our past, we should just resign ourselves that we won't make the 8 and or win a final/flag in the next 5 years?

Most, of the media play the percentages when making predictions. I doubt any of them had 4 sides making finals this year compared to last year and or Demons making finals. Easier to follow the masses, so if one gets it wrong, so will most of them.

I understand all that. I'm not asking for a kumbaya session around the fire, but even non-Carlton supporting journalists have managed to find some positives in the mess and write the occasional positive article.

just silly to suggest any sports' writer is solely negative against any club - too easy to cherry pick the critical stuff and minimize the positive.........

No and nobody is really saying that either from what I've read.
The discussion is based around Sam Maclure's opinion and the validity of his personal outlook towards our clubs chances of success, he may be right, he may be wrong - ultimately it's bordering on irrelevant.
It is preferable that he addresses it correctly though, rather than doing as the Robbo's, Whatley's etc do and dress his opinion up as fact.

please - disagreeing with an opinion doesn't necessarily mean it's incorrect...........

Change the name of the media person making a prediction, most will have a similar opinion, understandable, but doesn't make it correct. I sense the ongoing debate is moreso to do with Maclure being a Carlton supporter, rather than the prediction itself

We aren't in disagreement, Thy.

There's a section of our supporter base that seemingly wants nothing but puff pieces trotted out painting it as a formality that we're on the door of great things - Maclure is not delivering that which, IMO, is hurting some feelings.
My question is, do we really want our clubs representation in the media fawning over the club and turning a blind eye to it's failings? (See: RoCo, Robbo)

No to the bolded

No matter what article i take in, i prefer a balance of both sides, whether I agree or not

A look at Sam Walsh's first three seasons compared to the game's best midfielders.

This is very true and there are a lot of them on this forum.

Unpossible!! Who would think there are one eyed supporters on a Carlton forum ...

Genuinely shocked to be sitting here.

Well done gentlemen.

As a draftee, I saw a very high floor, Robert Harvey/Cotchin, and his ceiling targeting someone like a Whitfiield or ultimately Craig Bradley

I have been surprised at how he has improved from that 1st year high bar. More experience a given, my interest will be what he does as he puts on more size/strength, bloody exciting
