We will continue to drop games to sides we "shouldn't". Even our '95 side lost to 3rd bottom and 5th bottom. I'd rather be good than consistent

The Dogs showed in 2016 that once you get there, you only have to be consistently good for the 4 weeks that matter.

Geez your digging up an old discussion there "Mr. 3 arcs". An average of just over 3 goals a season leads me to stick to 2 arcs for now

We won't rehash old ground, but it will be interesting to see.

Traditionally if he played mid, he would rest forward - I'll give you that (it's just that he hasn't done it much). This new "man-on-the-mark-must-be-a-statue" rule could change a few things (added to the reduced rotations). The guys who can run past to receive, preferably with pace, who are also really good users, are going to be invaluable in my opinion. He can do all that. Do we want the ball in Williams' hands delivering inside 50, or do we want Gibbons/Setters etc. delivering it to Williams?

I know it theoretically isn't "resting" to run your ring off from half back to receive, but if he plays forward he has to run his ring off to defend the bloke he is playing on, to prevent him doing the exact same thing for the opposition. It's unfortunate for guys like Dow and Stocker how little actual "resting" a player can do whilst remaining on-field.

I can see occasions where we pick a Cottrell over a more talented player, to simply run with a Whitfield, Gaff type because of how much extra easy ball they can rack up.

Quite possibly, but he could just as easily switch with SPS at half back.

Martin then switches with Setterfield for example.

I think that table is slightly miss-leading. These guys were all in Richmond's 2020 GF team:
Balta (20yo), Baker (22yo), Bolton (21yo), Rioli (23yo), Graham (22yo).

Other youngsters who played during their finals campaign:
Chol (23yo), Ross (20yo).


I agree that the Tigers' list is getting old, but they have plenty of high quality, young talent coming through as well. They will continue to dominate across the league for many years to come.

Meh, maybe Balta aside (who looks a ripper) none of the rest listed are ever going to be in the class of a Cotchin, Dusty, Edwards or even a Prestia.

Couple of small forwards, an unremarkable small defender (Baker), Graham is average.

The point was their match winning talent is getting to the pointy end en masse.

Beat the sides around and below you, you make finals, anything more is a bonus, fact

Not a doubt in my mind. The mindset should be that we can win every game.

The reality is that we win games as underdogs, lose games that we should win

Same with me.

In 2018 when we were right down in the dumps, I predicted that in 2021 we would make finals for the first time in 8 years. I still predict that next year we can push for the top 4, and in 2023 to be a proper premiership contender.
