Have we really improved enough to be confident of a win against ferals round 1? The way they turned the cats on their heads in the gf was super impressive. Imo they are still a very dominating side. There is currently no match against their style of play. In another year or so maybe but atm they will be clear favourites imo. Anyway they are a good yardstick for us. Make it a competitive game and avoid 4-6 goal pile ons and I will be happy with our efforts for this years opener.

Improved enough since when?

Richmond will go in favourites and rightly so, but we showed last year that our best was certainly good enough to match it with the best sides in the competition; we just couldn't sustain that level for long enough.

Will be tipping the Tigers, but it would be foolish to suggest we're not a chance of winning. Of course we are.

From last season.

Agree with what you’ve said.

The issue with the CD player ratings is that they are too harsh on players turning the ball over/making mistakes. Just as good to have 10 possessions and make no mistakes as having 30 but make 10 mistakes( 20 positive possession - 10 negative possessions = net 10 positive possession). Doesn't take into account that while a ineffective kick forward may not result in anything positive for the team but actually winning the ball in the first place stopped an opponent getting the ball and start a chain of play closer to goals.

Cox is rated elite because he doesn't do much wrong as well as not doing much in general.
I still think a turntable gives warmer sound, and a valve amp, Luxman or something............

that's exactly how I felt this time last year - and the one before - done with it...........

Right with you there. Groove tubes all the way.

(I think they call that Shepherding)

Didn't think that was in existence anymore......died in the early 2000s

I remember braddles pointing to teammates to shepherd while sprinting down the wing.

Now blokes run next to their teammate asking for a handball rather than shepherding

Richmond usually take a month or so to get going. Notorious slow starters

A lot of pressure on us to perform this year, I reckon we’ll win

Anyone going to this?

It'll be first for me. Not really one for these sorts of events, but you've gotta try new things apparently.

Not sure I believe it, to tell the truth.View attachment 1055301
Better send esoteric with ya. we will need a good report. :p

Richmond lost just 2 games to teams outside the 8 last year, Hawthorn and the Giants (2 goals), in rounds 3 & 8.

Geelong lost just 2 games to teams outside the 8 last year, GWS and Carlton (less than a goal), both in the first 3 weeks.

A win against these sides gives you a big advantage over other sides fighting for the 8.

This was our 22 Round 1, 2020.

BLUES

B: Lachie Plowman, Liam Jones, Sam Docherty

HB: Nic Newman, Jacob Weitering, Sam Petrevski-Seton

C: Sam Walsh, Patrick Cripps, Jack Newnes

HF: Paddy Dow, Mitch McGovern, Jack Martin

F: Michael Gibbons, Levi Casboult, Jack Silvagni

Foll: Matthew Kreuzer, Marc Murphy, Ed Curnow

I/C: Kade Simpson, Will Setterfield, Zac Fisher, David Cuningham

Simmo's gone - and that's probably a good thing in the developmental scheme of things for the Club. No disrespect to the great Simmo.

Doc will be better for the 2020 season, no question.

Tigers list, getting old.

Contrast our oldest dozen or so.

Our oldest 3 or 4 aren't critical to our 22 any more. Far from it.

We've added 2 A graders, both 26yo, since then - Saad and Williams.

I'd suggest that's worth a net 5 goal swing our way against most teams.

GWS beat both Tigers and Cats, yet missed the finals

Goes to show a single, of in their case 2 games, doesn't dictate a season

Facts v opinion/desire

We will make finals this year, which will probably be based on beating sides around and or below us. Knocking over top 4 teams will be a bonus
Carlton beating teams they should beat?

Now there is a novel idea.
