In the case of our club song, Hagen appears to be fishing. He is searching for people who find the tune objectionable. I'd be quite confident that not one indigenous person has approached him & said "hey, that Carlton club song is extremely racist".

If he is sincere about wanting to improve the lot of indigenous Australians, he should have bigger fish to fry than an AFL club song, which the vast majority of Australians of all backgrounds would have no clue of its origins.

Maybe he read the thread on the main board that's been up and active since June last year.

I certainly didn't know the origins until that thread was made; and given this hasn't been voiced until now, I dare say he mightn't be dissimilar.

now all I can think about is that ****ing mind-numbing underpants ad that is trying to convince all men that their undies chaff - I don't know a single bloke who has an issue - and yes, I've asked around............

I know it's early days, but my gut feeling is that Son of Curly is going to turn out to be an even better list manager than SOS.
It seems in one off season he has brought in EXACTLY what we needed in the 3 mature recruits. saad, Williams and Fogarty. Our speed deficiency and high pressure forward.

Then our 3 draftees look like all making an impact, Parks looks like he fits into our defence like a glove. Carrol was reportedly in line for a call up until he broke a thumb, and Durdin has been impressive during preseason.

Albeit probably easier to add finishing touches than it is to gut and rebuild.

But yes, SOC did a great job addressing needs during the off-season.

I suppose my problem is the nigh universal condemnation this has received from AFL circles, not just Carlton ones. Carlton, if anything, have been more considerate than the vast majority of responses; they considered his claim or at least asked around, rather than the blanket dismissal he's been getting.

I don't know if this'll go anywhere, and it could very well be my inbuilt contrariness that's got my back up.

He could run all ****ing day. He was not slow, and his kicking could be ****ing fantastic. You're barking if you think the new setup - which would've given him more time and space to think before kicking - wouldn't have potentially extended his career.

He was slow and he wasn’t a good kick. The last few years he didn’t defend well and he provided zero attack.

It’s really not, I get that he’s bambi like. But he was a liability in the late stages of his career. Saad is an enormous upgrade.
