Time waits for no one. If we are seriously wanting to win premiership no. 17, IMHO.
-Curnow, Murphy, Betts need to be phased out very soon.
-Cripps to be pushed forward more (please kick straight!)
-Players recruited as on ballers need to be played there/rotated through more: Cunningham, Setterfield, Dow, Fisher, SPS and Stocker
-Lob and SPS to play on wings. Newnes is just a stop gap.
-Williams to go back to his best position - back.
-Fingers crossed he has a good injury run - I believe McGovern is a better version of Plowman. Much quicker and explosive to shut down smalls and talls.
-Cottrell must keep playing as he has mongrel and massive tank and speed. Could he occasionally tag and or lock down opposition gun smalls?
-TDK must play when fit and Pittonet is second fiddle/in 2s
-Need another developing ruckman, key back and fwd, small fwd and back
No problems with most of what you say but would you really play Mitch McGovern on the likes of Charlie Cameron, Robbie Gray etc because he is much quicker and explosive than plowman?
Just wow.

Agree with most of this but SPS should not be played on the wing - I am presuming you meant Setterfield to the wing here ? SPS is blindingly good in the guts and one of his biggest problems is gut running.

Rowell is basically Sam Walsh 2.0 with additional goal kicking.

HUGE call.

I'm skeptical but I would be so happy if you're right.
Kindada think Rowell might be the no1 in a few years close 2nd our Sam..can't wait to see Kemp though.
Gonna be some splendid AFL viewing next few years.

Part of the midfield conundrum is that Cripps doesn’t have a resting position. We’ve obviously tried him up forward, but he doesn’t get the craft and can’t kick for goal (though I’ve noticed a very slight uptick on this lately... emphasis on the word slight).

If we could rest Cripps out of there for longer, we could get more midfield minutes into the younger players.

I’m taking Arr0w’s view that Zac Williams is carrying injuries. But the fact remains that this is the second season in a row we have recruited a mature player to essentially replace a young player in the team who was developing well. Lochie O’Brien’s 2019 form was pretty fair, and he was elbowed aside for Newnes. Now Setters is basically replaced by a combination of Walsh’s move from the wing and the arrival of Williams.

It’s all well and good to do this if the young players don’t look like they’re coming through. But I’d argue LOB in 2019 and Setters in 2020 both showed enough potential to deserve greater persistence. Instead, their confidence is shot... to the point LOB barely gets a game, and when he does, he looks out of sorts. It’s recruiting which shows no faith in our player development.
I think that's unfair on Cripps. Which of our mids do actually have a resting position?

Dow can't play anywhere but mid
Ed Curnow can't play anywhere but mid
Walsh only plays on ball but his secondary position is wing - hardly a resting spot
Setterfield can't do anything but mid
Williams has come to the middle off half-back and has had no impact up forward when rested there
Pittonet can't do anything but ruck (not the same exactly, but ruckman who can rest forward are a bonus as are flexible mids)

Cuningham perhaps could be one, but I'm not going to call him a mid yet after 1 good game against his whipping boys. Though it'd be exciting if he keeps that up!

That's not the point. It's early days on Dow and setters and Co. We've got too many of that type and had Sps playing in the back line.

If Sps in the back line is a 4 and Williams in the middle is a 7 but Williams in the back line is a 9 and Sps in the middle is a 6-7. What combo makes more sense for the team???

Couldn’t be any more true. How a coach can look at SPS and the traits he has, and play him on a half back flank continuously staggers me. Also Zac Williams is absolutely not a midfielder, won’t ever have the tank for it. Take your medicine Zac, swallow your pride and play your best position.

Teague is a dingbat.

Rowell will Almost certainly have to change the way he plays given his proclivity for long term injuries.

Sam Walsh+

I really hope he's back and match fit by the time we play them again, would love to see them head to head.
Might be head to tail as I'm not sure Rowell can keep up with Walsh who just ran 17.1km in his last game..

Murph has hardly been a tackle monster since that thug at brissy crush his shoulder.
He was hardly a tackle monster before that tbf.

The only crushing shoulder injury I recall for him was Dangerfield, and that was a lot more than a damage than a dislocation caused by falling awkwardly. He also had a broken jaw in a similar incident.

Cmon mate - just wow?
Disagree with a take but save the histrionics.

I fully agree none of them have a resting position Coops. But the challenge for the coaching team with Cripps is trying to find that balance between having him in the middle (as our most proven onballer) versus being able to develop the younger players who are also primarily onballers. If Cripps could settle into a resting position it would make that rotation and onballer development easier for the coaching panel. But your overall point that none of them show positional versatility is a fair one.

You think that it requires more than that. Alright Charlie would kick 10 on Mitch before half time. Robbie would make him look silly with his football smarts. That is because Mitch is a third tall forward (or maybe a third rall defender) but never a small defender.
And saying just wow is not histrionics. Histrionics is melodramatic behaviour designed to attract attention. Saying just wow hardly qualifies as that.

"Carlton has a bit of a conundrum on their hands.
They have too many on-ballers and not enough centre bounce opportunities to share around."
SPS might be a good one to throw in on a deal to bring Cerra to the blues , we might have to pay a little extra but I would be more than happy to do that .
