Bit harsh on Teague imo.

Dow has had plenty of chances he just hasn't taken them to date. He played the first 4 games of this season and had little impact on any of them. Brought back last week in the guts but got injured.

Setterfield started the year as best 22, came straight back into the AFL team after missing 1 week through injury but had to be dropped since he was playing poorly.

LOB played a game this year and it was pretty poor, with his dropped mark and turnover that cost us a goal in the 4th quarter the nail in the coffin. Got no issue with Newnes and Cottrell being ahead of him right now.

It has taken a while but Cunners and SPS are getting more midfield minutes just recently and I hope it continues.
I might be biased because I love Dow, but if you watch each of his stoppage positions, they were terrible. He's been instructed to be the 3rd string stoppage position and shock, he barely extracted the ball and fed it out via handball or exploded from stoppages.

He's taken back to the VFL and he's the man in there. See ball, get ball. He was unbelievable in the twos in the position we recruited him in. We saw glimpses of that against the dons but then Pitto had to crunch his elbow into Paddy's eye socket. The kid has it. He has just been developed horribly. Was he a pick 3? Probably not. But he's got the makings of a very good midfielder imo.

I dont know what is wrong wiht him atm tbh and that is enough acronyms for tonight too - I think he is being played forward too much - thats for sure.

Tom Browne posted he was having Achilles issues given that he snapped it in 2018 probably playing it safe? Then again Browne may not have the right limb, appendage or player so who knows.

Thanks for that - whatever he has we need him fit and firing thats for sure.

Just seems to really struggle within a few minutes bid going into the guts.

Looks like he's got concrete boots. Maybe that's just when chasing [emoji848]

...yeah ....but Williams is much better than currently showing- when the CLub says 'soreness' means camouflage to me...he may need a serious rest/refit program but I'm hoping not.

Part of the midfield conundrum is that Cripps doesn’t have a resting position. We’ve obviously tried him up forward, but he doesn’t get the craft and can’t kick for goal (though I’ve noticed a very slight uptick on this lately... emphasis on the word slight).

If we could rest Cripps out of there for longer, we could get more midfield minutes into the younger players.

I’m taking Arr0w’s view that Zac Williams is carrying injuries. But the fact remains that this is the second season in a row we have recruited a mature player to essentially replace a young player in the team who was developing well. Lochie O’Brien’s 2019 form was pretty fair, and he was elbowed aside for Newnes. Now Setters is basically replaced by a combination of Walsh’s move from the wing and the arrival of Williams.

It’s all well and good to do this if the young players don’t look like they’re coming through. But I’d argue LOB in 2019 and Setters in 2020 both showed enough potential to deserve greater persistence. Instead, their confidence is shot... to the point LOB barely gets a game, and when he does, he looks out of sorts. It’s recruiting which shows no faith in our player development.

Yes, Kemp. He played in the championships and then played a much different role in later TAC Cup matches before his injury.
I've looked back, and he was playing school football leading up to (and on the day of) his injury, so for Geelong Grammar in the APS.

I accept what you're saying about his form at the time though, but tiny pinch of salt for school football, regardless of how some might feel about the competition level of the APS versus other school leagues and junior leagues below the NAB League.

Spot on - almost reads like it was written by someone on here (a number of us on here)

Hi Nic ;)

Good midfields bat deep, you need at least 8 going through to share the load, we need to balance it more evenly with those players Nic has highlighted.

I'd argue SPS has class, Cuningham has class and pace, Dow has pace - sometimes, Setterfield may have class --- but we haven't given any of these guys an extended run and recruiting Williams is the short cut.
Would be exciting to see those 4 (Dow, Cuners, SPS, S’field) in middle the at the same time

Maybe put him "in the cage" like Russell did to McGovern in 2019(?) for four to six weeks. Come back around the bye or even after it. That's six weeks to smash him into shape.

I'm leaning towards niggly injury issue as oppossed to not fit - the bloke is a natural athlete with a few preseasons under his belt...doubt fitness is the biggest issue unfortunately.

Kemp is almost as tall and as big as Cripps, runs faster, kicks better - he will be playing proper rotations midfield HFF/wing as soon as he has built his tank.

Dare I say, could he be our very own “football unicorn” like Nik Cox? Could he even reach such lofty standard? Will the media blow smoke up Carlton’s ass after he touches it 10 times?

Cox is 3 inches taller and a freak athlete- Kemp would break him in half. :thumbsu:

SPS has class, not pace and is being played as HBF

Dow has pace, class by hand. Can you have negative class by foot?

Cunners has pace AND class but is rarely played as a mid and unless he's playing against * he struggles to get >10 touches

Setters is average on pace and class

None of those is even close to being an established, first-choice mid. Setters probably the closest on 2020 form.

Stocker has both pace and class but has played 7 matches.

Kemp had both pace and class (pre-knee) but is yet to debut and might not be a FT mid for years.

We might swoon over our potential midfield depth but in reality we have no real proven, consistent performers beyond Cripps, Walsh and Ed. AND Cripps and Ed are not so great on pace or class either.

Dare I say it, but the GWS midfield group all have pace and class, but it doesnt seem to be getting them anywhere. Too much of a good thing? Maybe variation is the key

Who was listening to Yes No Richo on 3aw with Gerard tonight? In response to a question Richo said Essendon has a brighter future than us. I’m not an overly optimistic supporter but I think that view is complete c**p. Perhaps, when it comes to Carlton, they should call that segment, Yes No Bitcho!

Also, whenever Richo is asked a Carlton question his answer is invariably negative. Let’s get some success and shove it up Yes No Bitcho!
