Difficult to see the hit itself from the TV angle but Duncan did have a clenched fist and if he hit the solar plexus it's a pretty tender spot to hit (think balls but higher up). Anyone being hit in such a way genuinely deserves a free kick, regardless of whether they milk it to make sure it's paid. There's a difference between faking for a free and accentuating a free that's genuinely there. Any forward will accentuate a push in the back, no matter how slight. Any mid will try to make a tackle look like they've been carried forward in the action. What's Papley to do ? Pretend he didn't get hit ? This is footy. The aim of the game is to kick goals and umps will pay frees if and when they see them (unless the player is a bulldog). Duncan is an idiot to have made the hit, out of play, in front of goal and in front of an umpire FFS. Chris Scott should have benched him. No mattter how hard it was it was unnecessary, stupid and undisciplined. It cost Geelong (the best 4th quarter players in the league) any chance of getting back into the game when they were only 25 points down on their home deck with the wind and the crowd behind them.

Sure. Was just addressing an apparent general consensus that he is an average to poor footballer that does nothing but get high free kicks. That's far from the case.

You're welcome to keep jumping at shadows though.

He got him square in the chest, no way he was clocked in the diaphragm or any sort of plexus, Papley just faked it, it's like getting hit on the shoulder and going down clutching your face, that's not accentuating the action

Papley gets like 1 free a game. He's ranked like 115th in Frees For this year. Completely unremarkable for a guy now playing a fair bit of midfield minutes.

If he's diving to get frees, he's not doing it particularly well or often.

He got one match. So your Hodge example is shit and again we're back to square one, so I'll ask again, even if we call Papley going down and getting up again within seconds of being hit in the solar plexus a dive, what's another example?
