Mark Powell and Josh Thewlis went real well.
I'd always thought there were concerns over his size and ability to remain uninjured if he went into the AFL. He's stacked on a fair bit of weight and seems healthy. If he gets the ruck spot I'll be watching more North games. Cuz BOG in constant 10 goal losses should make everyone happy. Why would anyone have hard feelings towards a kid who slogged away for five years on our list and was probably a little unfairly treated too

I wonder what Woewodin thinks of Powell.Didn't Powell quit after all playing lists had been finalised and cost Woewodin an opportunity with the Roos considering he was training with them at the time?
He played for Queanbeyan in AFL Canberra for a few seasons and then North Shore in the SFL after that. Not sure where is now.He quit in mid january i think. Apparently his girlfriend didnt settle in well living in Melbourne & Ive heard numerous times he lacked motivation. Anyone know if he still plays local footy in NSW?
Woewodin was prepared to play for the absolute minimum aswell.

Good article by Jolly on interchange cap

We won the premiership that year, dropping only two games!
. I am struggling to find any coach in favour of an interchange cap.
What does everyone think of the fact we have so many ex players who spent a lot of time in our reserves, playing at other clubs now or in the near past that were re-drafted to the AFL after spending a season or more at various state leagues.
Is is a tick to our recruiters who could spot the potential in these players or is it a cross against our coaches and/or development system that these 6 players all had to spend time in state leagues (4 SANFL 2 VFL) before they were picked up again.
- Daniel Currie (North Melbourne)
- Peter Faulks (Fremantle)
- Simon Phillips (ex Port Adelaide)
- Sam Rowe (Carlton)
- Jon Simpkin (ex Geelong now Hawthorn)
- Dean Terlich (Melbourne)
Oh but that applies to all players at all clubs, not just ours in particular. I probably should have done the research in depth, but I get the feeling that having 6 players in this situation would be greater the mean at the other clubs.I just think it's the way the system works.
None of the players would IMO be close our best 22 (when all our players are available) and it's just a fact of life that clubs delist/trade fringe players and all were originally speculative draft picks. 4 were rookies. Currie was taken at pick 49, Faulks pick 65.
Sometimes players need to physically or mentally develop and/or improve and a season or two at a lower level may be what the player needs.
As much as anything I think there is now a willingness to draft mature age players especially as rookies, as we did with Rampe.
So if you're Byron Sumner or Nathan Gordon and reading this thread, your future looks pretty bright!

Good post grim, and a good question asked at the end. I am very hesitant to mark them as a tick for our recruiters, because they had the chance to pick Luke Breust after watching him in the reserves and failed to do so. But it will be great to watch the likes of Rowe, Terlich and Currie as they get another chanceWhat does everyone think of the fact we have so many ex players who spent a lot of time in our reserves, playing at other clubs now or in the near past that were re-drafted to the AFL after spending a season or more at various state leagues.

Wait until the real stuff starts.
Currie will have to deal with one ruckman after another going hard at it, week after week & stay injury free. That was his main issue with us. NAB meant he came up against lesser ruckmen that were still getting game time. As for the other players, consistency is what will get them games in a good team. Spangher is the nost likely to get a spot in the Hawks team because Suckling has gone down & Spangher offers that forward option & he can help out in the ruck if needed. He has a few strings to his bow. Much like LRT for us. He also has the senior experience & has played finals with us.
Perhaps Terlich will be OK with regular game time but that's only because I have Melbourne finishing bottom 4.
I guess they have been given their final opportunity. They need to grab it & hit the ground running.

Even now it appears he doesn't grasp the reason for that focus.(on) Veszpremi's tortuous time in Sydney. ''I didn't feel like I was there to play football,'' he says. ''It was all fitness and weight, fitness and weight.''
I can't help but noticed it mentioned a reinvention. Perhaps a few months more sessions with Maxfield would have resulted in a transformation more meaningful than sitting in the reserves of a bottom 4 side.;
