Shane MacGowan, gin drinker, man. Similarly Graham Chapman.

This bloke liked the odd tipple.

Sure hope you aren't a bourbon drinker, if so opinion immediately discounted.

The only people I know who drink gin are men, anecdotal evidence matched.

Makers mark whiskey thanks

You must be from toorak or similar, looking up to the women that drink gin and you do the same to feel somewhat sophisticated but actually appear to be more likely to be batting for the same team.

Or you're well over 50?

Another Bond and Royal navy drink of choice, though due to the bitters, one more associated with summer and the Caribbean.

Never tried one myself, I am so so on the bitters.

One of the funniest moments on the classic TV show "Minder" was Arfur hobnobbing it up at the yacht club with the retired navy gents who all ordered pink gins. Not to be outdone, Arfur ordered a pink vodka.

I don't mind the occasional gin, though I prefer whisky. Coincidentally, my favourite gin is The Botanist which is made by Bruichladdich, better known for their peated Islay whiskies.

Brilliant, I will have to check it out.

Jameson ftw, it's my go to whiskey.

Canadian Club is my second favourite if there's no Jameson.

Not a fan of Scotch whisky, too harsh.
Jameson is my favourite, but I just don't drink it that often. A mate of mine gave me a bottle of Dimple for my 40th, which I expect to have a dram from when I turn 50 such is the infrequency of my forays into whisky.

I like Jameson too. Have some at home. I also don't mind gin but mainly in the summer. I have a few friends that like it with juice but I only really like it with tonic and lime. Can't say I've ever heard anybody say it's a woman's drink. Mostly, I'm a beer, rum or red wine drinker though.

I tried the Beefeater 24 today, in a G&T with a wedge of ruby grapefruit. It has some interesting aromatics and generally gets great reviews. Neat it is a subtle gin, with a hint of peal and tea notes. Great aroma though, but definitely not as distinct as a Hendrik's, or citrusy as a Bombay.

Was pretty alright, though it is better in cocktails I think.

You couldn't be more right DivideandMultiply, Gin is gaining momentum in a big way, although not in the way we know it. There are new styles being introduced away from the traditional heavy juniper London Dry. I know Nicks Wine Merchants in Melbourne are carrying near 80 gins now from all over the Globe. A couple of my favourites of late have been Tuthilltown Half Moon Gin from upstate New York which use an Apple and Wheat base, opposed to traditional Grain and Monkey 47 from Germany.

Give it a try, you might be surprised.

I will 100%.

If Nick's Wine Merchants are open on a Sunday, I will be down there.

Got a bottle of Tanqueray 10 currently in my boot. Gin and tonic is better when you're thirsty/drunk.
Gin and Tonic is best taken around sundown on a day ending in y.

The first time I ever had a G&T remains the best. A rooftop party in the city at the beginning of summer with the skyline and sunset engulfing us.

Drinking it at the table just ain't the same, unfortunately.

Don't remember my first, but my best was on a houseboat on Kariba watching the sun go down. Quinine in the tonic was useful too because I'd forgotten to get any anti-malaria tablets.
