OK, so here's how wrong I was:
My counter-argument to paying the draft-pick price to acquire Jeremy Cameron
was based around my belief - still not disproven! (ok; public apologies are hard) - that we needed to rejuvenate our list by emulating the list-building approach that formed the core of our 3-time premiership winning teams of 2007, 09 and '11.
I thought that our strong hand at the draft was our first opportunity in a long time to really make hay at the draft; my hope was that we would go back to the well again in the '21 or '22 drafts with enough strong picks to roughly replicate the net effect of the 1999 and 2001 drafts.
That was my dream.
I have always loved Jeremy Cameron
as a footballer; he was exactly the type of footballer that I was resentful a phony club like the Giants could jag so blithely; a young (at the time) super-talented key forward with genuine x-factor. I know that if I looked hard enough I'd be on record as praising him on this board circa 2013.
Anyway - I didn't want to pay the price, and I have publicly argued that point on this very board.
I was wrong.
I always knew he could play, but the question was; could he deliver?
He has delivered. He didn't win us a flag off his own boot by any means.
But he has played a massive part in transforming this team.
