at this stage, i don't think it will be neeld. just way too many cockups (young captains, moloney, crazzzy vossy-esque recruitment (geeze we made out like bandits with that dawes deal) etc.) to survive this. as well as 88% of the players clearly not playing for him.

and with that said, this has to be the most petulant ****ing playing group i've ever seen. i'm not even a dees fan, but i was angry just watching 88% of this lot go around today. viney will be a star.

for instance in that clip above he preaches about trust and how he will stand by the players. yet in his post game today he was saying "this isnt about me, its about the players"

Yeah I don't think we were that broken before. Bailey was asked to lose games deliberately but we still looked better playing under him.

Melbourne would have been better off sticking with Dean Bailey.

You also have to consider that if Melbourne do stick with Neeld, how much more long term damage can he do not only to the Melbourne brand, but to his players as well. You just know clubs are going to pick over their carcass at the end of the year.

Oh I agree, he isn't a leader and probably should have stayed in his role at collingwood, but he does have the right idea, I can see it. I just think its wrong to put it all on him like some have, the players need to be dealt with im sure if there was a free agency system running right now half melbournes list would be gone, its pathetic.

I can't argue with you there, although, I'd say most of the lacklustre performances are coming from blokes who have been there longer then mark himself.

Havent weighed up the options, but FWIW, for the whole team to lay 32 tackles when being smashed in possesions is not an indightment on the coach, its players effort. Slam me if you want, if neeld is sacked the lazy culture that the dees have surpasses any discipline that neeld or anyone else tries to bring into the club. The players are not hating losing, which is a player driven thing. Whipping them on the track will cause more resentment amongst the group for the coach, which will make things worse. If i was coach today, i would have made the players stand in the race after the game and cop all the abuse from the fans. They have to learn to start hating losing which will make so much more angry and driven to win. If they are driven to win and are still losing, then look at the coaching position.

It's true the club was like this before he came, but the first thing he should have been able to address was the players attitude. Win or lose, they should at least look like they care.

Have a look at GCFC today. Those guys have been playing for years without much hope of winning, yet they have been going out and giving their best each week.

Whilst Neeld has had a lot to do, he hasn't been able to give the players that attitude of giving their best regardless of the results. He has lost the dressing room (if he ever had it) and his time is up.

34 scoring shots to 19 , 4.10.34 to 3/4 time , horrible reading. 1 bloke kicked 10 by himself today and Melbourne as a team kicked 7 against a team in it's 3rd year , a team still finding their feet in the big league.

What they really need to do is call an extraordinary general meeting (or whatever) and sack the board that is ultimately responsible for all of this. Then they'll have at least a chance of appointing a decent permanent CEO, and putting in place a process for selecting a new coach that goes beyond Lyon cupping Neeld's balls and thinking "these are some pretty big kahunas and the Crows seem to want him, he'll do."

Hmmm...not sure how to approach this one. I guess the first thing I think is that Neeld should be sacked. He took over and under-performing club and now it's worse. I remember at the end of 2010 my team, North, beat Melbourne in a fantastic game where only 9th place was at stake by a couple of goals and I thought how these two teams would have many more great duels as they develop in the next few years. Now don't get me wrong, North haven't stormed ahead in leaps and bounds, but how Melbourne have fallen away staggers me. That game was James McDonald's last as a Melbourne player and it's incredulous that such a player was shuffled aside, arguably prematurely, for a supposed "new era" for the MFC.

I'm sorry if I sound patronising to Melbourne fans but I feel very, very sad for you and your club. All decent supporters follow the game and love their club simply because it's fun. And I know that for you, this isn't fun. Sometimes the fun is perverse - the blind optimism of next week where maybe, just maybe, you can topple a more fancied opponent. But I can't imagine the optimism for MFC fans is even blind - it's just pessimism, hopelessness, resignation. I think it's sad in any pursuit or aspect of life when the passion, the fun, dies and becomes a burden.

As for Neeld, well, for the above reasons he needs to relinquish his post, or have it relieved of him. I'm sure he has done his best in an endeavour that is immensely hard and which comes with incredible pressure. But the bottom line is that he has failed. A team that were more or less an under 19s team with Gary Ablett in it when he started is now 10 goals better than his team. Again, I feel for him. He seems like an honourable man whose most glaring public flaw is that he accepted a post that was way above his capabilities - Chris Scott gets his first gig at Geelong, he got Melbourne. I guess going a long while back he had ambitions to do what he is doing now, and it must be awfully hard to reach the point of acceptance that he couldn't fulfill those ambitions in such an intense spotlight. I hope he has the support mechanisms in his life to deal with what must be very disappointing for him, and his family. I also hope the MFC and its supporters deal with his inevitable departure with respect and honour and that the players who share as much blame as he does, come to accept their liability and the honour they still have of wearing a MFC jumper every week, win, lose or draw.

And finally to MFC fans, apologies again if I come across patronising. My club has been far from a model of excellence in the past 10 years, but I don't pretend to understand how hurtful your current situation is. Hopefully, some positive moves will be made and I can hate you again in the near future!!

The actions of the melbourne football club over the course of the next 6 months could determine whether they're out of the bottom 2 in 2 years or 10 years, it has to be well thought out, not a quick decision, every single nook and crannie of this club needs to be evaluated before they fall into a bigger and badder situation.
