My theory is this.

If you love your club, you turn up if you are able to. Only work, family and distance should be your excuses. To not turn up outside of those things is pure gutlessness.

Don't you ****ing dare.

I've sat through the last seven years of this garbage - the good times, the GOOD TIMES WERE AN EIGHT-WIN SEASON.

We have won ONE GAME IN FIVE over the last SEVEN YEARS.

Just stop it. Don't call me ****ing gutless after being sick of watching them get belted by 10-20 goals every week and deciding I can't be bothered anymore.

I would have thought Essendon fans were some of the quickest to hop off the bandwagon in the league. It would be interesting to see the Coll/Ess % of fans for the second match up over the last few years when we've been flying, and Essendon have (for the most part), been finished. Only 56,491 last year. 75% would have been Pies, without a doubt.

Neeld can coach, but, he's been given some of the worst cattle I have ever seen take the field.

No heart, no desire and pretty much no committment.

Simple as that.

My theory is you can blow it out your arse.

Football is a product, and when the product is costing me thousands of dollars in time and money, and its been shit for over 6 years to the point it actively depresses me - I'm not going to put myself through that anymore than I absolutely have to. I'll still pay up cause I'm a masochist, but I've got better things to do on a Sunday than watch this shit.

Oh please.

What kind of message does it send to the playing group by not turning up.

Sacking Neeld will result in another 5 years of disappointment. Because Neeld isn't the problem - only a symptom of the problem.

Neeld needs to be given an immediate 5 year extension of his contract.

And here is what will happen if he gets that:

* Job security - would eliminate all speculation about his position, so he can actually concentrate on his job. The speculation is making his job a million times harder.

* List development - a coach with a long term deal gets a bit more carte blanche to get the recruiting staff the right players to move the club forward.

* Development and refinement of the game plan - you'd think that 5 year coaching deal would see plenty of time put in to make the best possible game plan to suit the list at Neeld's disposal.

Sacking the coach is the easy way out. Sticking by him takes courage. Time for the MFC board to show that courage.

Why didn't Melbourne throw the kitchen sink and then some at getting Matt Rendell to the club. Your recruiting has been pitiful and his record speaks for itself. Surely Neil Craig would have been pleading for the board to toss him enough coin to get him across?

I don't know whether Neeld can coach, but I don't think he can coach this club, under these circumstances. It's a shame, because his coaching career at AFL level is now dead as a result of walking into a basket case.

Melbourne should move heaven and earth to get Sheedy back to Victoria and surround him with quality personnel. They need someone with runs on the board and a strong enough character to demand respect from the players and the board. An untried coach was always going to be a recipe for disaster.

LOL. There would be an atrocity if this happened.

I'm sick of going to the football HOPING TO LOSE BY TEN GOALS.

Thats the worst part when you are terrible - nothing worse then going to a game knowing you can't possibly win. Fortunately for me it hasn't got as bad as it is for Dees fans at the moment and I have never missed a game cause I thought we'd lose, but I hate when going feels like a chore and you know your not going to enjoy the game

Sheedy? No thanks. He's finished and has been for ages.

Recruitment isn't the issue, evne if you look at most of the guys who didn't pan out, they weren't bad picks at the time - conventional wisdom had most of those guys going that high at least (with the notable exceptions of Lucas Cook and Jordan Gysberts).

I, for one, would give up for as long as this board was in power.

Where is your evidence for this? Everyone pointing at the cattle... as if they somehow messed up draft picks consistently when they didn't go left-field like, say, a Reece Conca. They used their high draft picks on universally highly rated juniors. Highly rated juniors who are consistently regressing, and in many instances, leaving. I think there is nothing wrong with his cattle. Not many players drafted into the AFL are incapable of playing the game.

People said the same things about Hardwick's cattle early in his tenure. We were worse than the last days of Fitzroy, apparently. Hardwick might never take us to a flag, but he cut deep & moved on experienced players in droves. He played kids, and managed to deliver a game plan that produced some wins and had us showing promise 18 months into his tenure. I'm not suggesting for a minute that we're world beaters, but at least we've got hope. I'm pretty sure most Dees supporters would love to be where we are.

Can see him being sacked based off what Walls said this morning. He said he didn't know what would happen but continued to say that if the board feel that supporters and sponsors will start withdrawing support/funds etc then they are likely to let him go.
Judging by the Melbourne fans on here that is what is happening. I genuinely feel sorry for you guys and understand the frustration. Can't believe some people think Dees fans are soft o_O

Not much can be said really. Sad to see Gold Coast go pass Melbourne in such a small time-frame.

Either way I expect Melbourne to come out firing next week.

Well then you have a decision to make.

If the board isn't doing the job you ask of them to do..you vote them out. It's democracy. But, then again, calling for a spill of the board is fraught with danger - as those in the coterie groups tend to have "more pull" than the rank and file members at clubs.

Sheedy wouldnt want to coach Melbourne. If you remember he was interviewed for the job before Neeld and after the interview he categorically stated he didnt want the job anyway so there must have been something during the interview process that turned him off wanting the job. The whole place needs a clean out from coach to players to the board if they are going to get back to winning games. The players are clearly not playing for Neeld and he needs to go first and foremost. Ayres might be a good fit for them i would reckon

No-one has a duty to turn up to the football come rain, hail or shine (figuratively speaking).

Professional football clubs are not charities - they exist to provide entertainment, not to find a cure for cancer or help people in third world countries get out of poverty.

When the entertainment produced is consistently unappealing over a long period of time, you can hardly blame people for being less than 100% committed. Only masochists pay money and spend their time on experiences they don't expect to enjoy.

Schwab has now left the building, he may and that's a small may, have half a chance. Let him go onto the end of his contract.

He was overlooked and made up a fib about rejecting us to make his ego feel better. Its Sheedy, he's a liar. Essendon sacked him cause he was well and truly past it, we made the same judgement about him.

Comment was made on SEN this morning, that Melbourne should be moving heaven and earth to get Stephen Wells over from Geelong, as his track record in untapping talent late in the draft has been phenomenal.

Just because you have draft picks 1, 2 4, 5 and 10 for instance, actually doesn't mean you will get the right talent for your club.

Melbourne would do well to follow the lead set by the likes of Essendon and Collingwood and going into VFL ranks and getting blokes that way.

Have a look at how many former Frankston players are now on AFL lists - or look at Sam Dwyer's cross from Port Melbourne to Collingwood.

Myles Sewell would look awesome in Melbourne's midfield next to Nathan Jones.

Thank you.

We're one of the most passionate supporter bases around (not in numbers, we have a small supporter base, but in ratio of supporters to memberships) - but its getting beyond a joke.

I have to say even though I want Neeld out the door it's absolutely pathetic the way this is being covered by the media. "NEELD'S JUDGEMENT DAY" "NEELD'S DEE DAY" All of them are building up the narrative for his sacking, vultures the lot of them.

They're playing a game plan that they don't have the skill to execute. Coach's fault.

Yes your right and he has to take blame for that, but basic skill errors and a lack of desire to put the body on the line are why they are being smashed week in week out, game plans only represent so much of what it takes to win

Agreed.

The accosting of McLardy by the media pack before the meeting is an example of that.

Our late picks have actually been pretty good.
