The most ignored stat in the AFL - Nathan Fyfes disposal efficiency

Let me throw this out there

Nathan Fyfes disposal efficiency

2013 - 60.9% (bottom 10 in whole league for those over 10 games and 3rd worst amongst midfielders)
2012 - 56.9% (worst in league for players above 10 games)
2011 - 61.5% (bottom 10 in the whole league for those over 10 games and 3rd worst amongst midfielders)

How can literally the worst disposer of the football in the AFL over the past 3 years (he has everyone covered by the length of Flemington too, except for Ryan O'Keefe) be considered such a all out superstar? Ive seen the likes of Daniel Jackson cop flak over there disposal week in week out yet Jacksons disposal efficiency vs Nathan Fyfe is nearly 15% better off.

How can a guy who hits his target this little be considered for a AA spot by everyone? It seems to me people judge him on disposal stats as opposed to what he does with those stats. People want to consider him elite. The fact of the matter is that until he learns how to kick he isnt there yet.

Hmm interesting Stat so Fyfe averages 25 disposals a game. So 15 are effective and 10 are ineffective. I see your point. Sad thing is Fyfe has a bit more upside as he reaches his Prime years when he is aged 25-30. Fyfe is only 21/22.

Your in For a massive surprise on what is going to say next. If you were the coach of Freo and Fyfes Disposal Efficiency is under 60% would you drop him? I know you would. I wouldn't even drop Stephen Hill despite him having another quiet game because he was heavily tagged and here is why....

Stephen Hill, Statistically has had a poor season compared to last year and year before. In 11 games this season Hill has had only 4 games with 20 disposals or higher, the other 7 he has had less than 20 disposals. So why hasn't he been dropped? It is simple for one reason... Danyle Pearce.

Danyle Pearce has done this all season and he did it again against the Saints. Pearce has benefited from Hill being tagged. Pearce found the ball easy to get and has even scored goals because of it. There was little focus on Pearce because the saints spent too much time and energy to shut down Hill. Mundy benefited as well and he kicked 2 goals.

Same way how Daniel Kerr, Andrew Embley and your teams other mids benefited from Judd and Cousins being heavily tagged.

Pearce isn't doing any better than he was last year

True. But he has made a positive impact at freo. I will live by the theory that Hill will get shut down again and Pearce will get a couple of goals.
If Pearce is. Having the same impact as last year how is he benefitting from hill being tagged? Especially since Pearce had a hard tag all through last year

Once Brent Harvey Retires, we will see if Swallow and all your other mids are as good as some North Fans think they are.

We already have Matt Rosa. Why would you want his exact double?

People are just buying into the media hype. The fact of the matter is Nathan Fyfe is the worst disposer of the ball since the stat was created yet apparantly it doesnt matter?

The amount of shit Ive seen Masten, Jackson, Boyd etc get for there kicking. They have 10-15% over Fyfe over the past 3 years. Where is Fyfes criticism?

Reeks of double standards
You sir, no nothing about AFL. You live in a world where stats are everything, if stats mean everything, how come North Melbourne are outside the 8 and why didn't Scott West ever win a brownlow? Josh Kennedy from Sydney must be a crap player in your eyes, while someone like Joel Bowden must of been a legend to you. Please stop trying to talk footy, you're just embarrassing our sport.

If you're going to be a douche and correct someone on grammar, please do it correctly.

Fyfe's = fyfe is

I think you're looking for Fyfes'.

I'll just start small.

This 'disposal efficiency' stat is a joke. Every disposal has a special context, to reduce it to 'effective' and 'non-effective' is ridiculous.

A player can have 10 kicks and if two of them go straight to the opposition in the defensive 50 and result in a goal, they still have a disposal efficiency of 80%. Meanwhile, if a bloke wins a clearance and gets a quick kick forward to a contest and then his teammate loses the contest, it's considered an ineffective disposal.

Completely useless stat. You only need to actually watch the game to know that Fyfe is a gun.

Most stats are a joke. The only stats that matter is goals and behinds for as opposed to goals and behinds against. The rest is fodder.

I recall once watching a quarter of football where Chris Judd had something like 8 disposals and coughed everyone of them up to the opposition, and yet his effective disposal rate was 81%!!! Funny how kicking the ball down opponents' throats is considered effective.

Freo fans are ignoring one key point

You all cheered Rhys Palmers departure. Why

1. He cant kick

Here we have someone whose kicking is much much much worse and its irrelvant. Its the ol double standards. People here are saying the stat is meaningless. How come when Rhys Palmer is about to leave it all of a sudden has meaning?

It only has meaning to people on Bigfooty when it suits there argument. Nat Fyfe being overrated doesnt suit there argument so its a meanigless stat. When Rhys Palmer is leaving Freo for a compo pick they then drag the stat out and use that as a reason for why they are better off without him.

Its just double standards no matter how you want to define it

Theres pointless stats and then there is relevant stats. Should have made that lot clearer in that statement.

The amount of kicks arnt that important when your turning it over as often as he does. He has been in the top 3 for Clangers in the past two years too and was in the top 20 in 2011 with a top 10 like average for them

So when he gives a free kick away and is credited with a clanger...... this relates to his disposal in what way exactly?

Seriously, why does anyone give this guy oxygen by responding. We all know that when the Eagles are having a bad year there is a small section of their fans who think that criticising Freo, their players, their coach, their supporters is equivalent to having a good season.

Let's enjoy watching the absolute champion that Nat Fyfe will be in years to come and enjoy the ride to the finals.

Leave the sour softcocks to their bitterness.

It's because Rhys, unfortunately, couldn't hit the side of a proverbial barn from 20m when under no pressure whatsoever.

Watch some footy Embers ffs...

What the hell are you on about. Fyfes kicking in uncontested situations is actually worse. Just like Rhys Palmer.

Stop trying to alter fact to suit your argument fella's. It cant be done
