I dont think the difference should be where the candidate resides rather than if they are suitable to possess firearms.
I didn't mean that exactly.
More that there is no reason at all for someone in the city to have firearms. Especially under Australian law.
I read that the son in the shooting was investigated for links with IS. Seems as though that would be a reason for a ban.

Think you'd be wrong tbh.
I think we had to release something, given who our best player is and what he is.

Sorry if it came across as being whatever, I just feel we sometimes deviate from our "lane" when it's possibly not required.

My dad is fourby, I'm worried about the surname I gave my only daughter. Whilst she's catholic, I'm still somewhat concerned.

I have the opposite problem.

Due to a complicated family history, I have an anglo surname (about as Irish as you can possibly get) but a Jewish family heritage on my maternal side.

My daughters have hebrew given names, and my anglo surname.

As ferball correctly pointed out (in an admittedly nice and respectful PM this morning); when this latest round of violence in Gaza and Israel kicked off I immediately recognised that this was going to end up somewhere like this, and it just makes me angry. At everyone. On all sides.

All good chief albeit I had to go to Urban Dictionary for fourby. 6-7 etc.

Yeah I know mate, just look after your kids and do your best. For obvious reasons we're involved, but not involved.

FFS.

We should just be handing out googs to both sides, everyone used to get along fine at raves back in the day.

Are we allowed to call us Norf?

This is why I dislike and have zero connection with my own kind. Majority still hold past political conflict to this day. I dont get along with my family because of their views.

You may have a different perspective to your ethnic heritage or in laws ethnic origins, but that isn’t the way everyone thinks.

I purchased razor wire a couple of years ago and it was from a Jewish supplier, you wouldn’t believe the inappropriate comments regarding Palestinian prisoners and the reasons why Jewish are the number 1 supplier of razor wire was abhorrent. So you may be the outlier, however political hate exists in this space in this country. Whats the answer? On ya bikes and piss off.

to the individual sure but hardly a reason why some responsible person is penalised, the issue is complex as iirc the investigation was on the offender who didnt possess the firearms. did the authorities know they went to the philipines to do the military training thats being reported. ?? so where do you draw the line, look at ivan milat, do you penalise his family, all 13 other members for his sins?

this by definition is the textbook of a terrorist atack, the very act that laws were amended for the autorities to have more reach in an effort to kerb. very different to lone attacks such as knight and bryant.

What if they like to go hunting? I know quite a few people that live in the city that go hunting.

Yes with Scab as a surname she won’t go down well with Trade Union types.

WA's gun laws in national spotlight with national reforms flagged after Bondi terror attack
By WA state political reporter Keane Bourke

Commissioner's discretion
The legislation also gives the police commissioner broad discretion when considering whether a prospective firearm owner is a "fit and proper person", allowing them to consider everything from their "conduct and behaviour" to their "views, opinions and attitudes".

The commissioner can also consider who a person lives with, who their family are and who they are in business with.

It is these restrictions that WA Police Commissioner Col Blanch said on Monday morning could have given WA Police greater powers to avert a tragedy like the Bondi attack than their New South Wales counterparts have.

He pointed to the ability to consider who a firearms owner associated with as a key power for police.

"[They] may be on a terror watch list, they may be an outlaw motorcycle gang member, they may have a mandatory disqualification offence like family violence," Commissioner Blanch said.

"We can take firearms off other members of that same household, who may not have that history, because of their close association.

"That is a fantastic part of the 2024 Firearms Act that we utilise on a regular basis to protect our community."

What is this thread even about and why is there a second Random thread as well?
Because the creator of this thread(s) doesn’t like political talk in the random chat thread. Thats why this is the No Longer random thread

Last time I modded in these parts, finals felt somewhat possible, so as an average mug, im happy to rename/ask the mods to lock if it gets up peoples goats that much, but made this thread as a result of the original RTC being a political circular shit fight.

This one eventually went to crap like the OG, so created the other one (again happy to rename or ask the mods to lock if its an issue)

It's heart warming to read the collective response and not giving into hate based on the horrible news the other day, especially from a couple of posters who haven't got along (think everyone on NM BF are great people at heart)

Just thought having a true random chat thread to chinwag about for people to talk about the less serious topics in the world and somewhat get their minds of stuff would be a positive thing, that's all.

I agree; I just didn't understand the two threads.

Play on
