You don't have to be angry all week. But you need to be upset about what happened.

You need anger to fuel your response to a game like that because you need to lift your intensity after a game like that even if you were one of the few good players in the side that week.

I don't mean a situation where everyone at the club is angry with each other. The players need to be angry about what happened and that anger should drive their resolution to fight harder for every contest and work harder at their game during the week. Anger isn't a good emotion when its uncontrolled and let loose but when its used to drive determination and focus or helps intensity on field then its good. Use it to aid motivation when something is lacking.

Same in non footy contexts.

Unforcused uncontrolled anger can cause some ****ed up outcomes but when its focused and directed or used as energy for a positive reaction then its a healthier situation and more likely to be a better outcome.
I absolutely want them to play with intensity (and skill, and intelligence). I just don’t think that’s inconsistent with coming to work with a positive outlook on Mondays.

Might as well say this here - I love how people appalled at hearing the players aren’t miserable appear to think the alternative is that they are yelled at and sick about losing and this miraculously leads to winning. I think the more likely alternative is we move into Fitzroy death throes with any decent players moving on as soon as they can. It’s a bloody miracle they can keep looking for and finding positives and a credit to the people around the club who keep spirits up.
You've got it backwards. There should be a truckload of wounded pride and shame about this period at North.

That should be evident on field with the now defunct resilience and grit. Players and personnel alike should be fighting for their lives to get us out of this position.

They're finding non existent positives. That's just called delusion, and will lead to our demise faster than any other single factor.

Imagine walking away from a game last week unbothered, laughing with mates, acquaintances, collecting your weekly/fortnightly/monthly pay, and carrying on your merry way.

Practically every captain in the history of the game would puke in disgust at that behaviour, yet it's the sort of behaviour now seems to be commonplace at our club.

It comes down to a fundamental question.

What is the Purpose of the North Melbourne Football Club?
  • Is it to Win Premierships?
  • Or is it just a place where you can get fit and rich with mates?

Number two, and I imagine that the fitness element is optional in comparison to all of the well-run teams

I don’t think that’s what anyone said happened, though.

It's what we can surmise, surely.

Jy having a grin when outmarked by Humphreys. Sonja having a chuckle in the rooms with Chom, I believe it was. Clarko reiterating that you wouldn't know we'd just suffered a 100 pt loss.

And I don't wanna hear that players are allowed to have a laugh. When I was smashed in C grade domestic basketball games, the atmosphere afterward was grin-less, joyless, as we all just wanted to get out, process the result, move onto the next thing in our day, and come back next week raring to go.

Given the body of on field evidence to suggest we are a joke of a professional organisation, I think it's fair to assume that no one was truly hurting after that. Maybe Parker was. I wouldn't put money on anyone else

People can surmise or assume whatever they want to.

You can't play angry for a sustained period. Eventually you have nothing to be angry about. When you do, like we did in Rhyce Shaw's first few games in 2019, it looks and feels fantastic, but ultimately it's just a sugar hit.

I also don't believe that our current team likes losing and doesn't want to be better.

But they also NEVER play angry. Their body language is awful. There's a distinct lack of urgency, even the pregame warm-ups they lappear to be going through the motions. Moments of intent are just that - moments. In bad quarters, shoulders sag, heads drop, leaders don't emerge. Bad days turn into bad months. The club has been terrible for years but no one with any clout even seems mildly pissed off.

Whether they win or not tomorrow, I'll be shattered if we don't go at it at a hundred miles an hour.

Every time I watch Morris play it annoys me we took Dawson (and goad to an extent) ahead of him

He is a perfect example as to why footy IQ and forward craft is so important, isn’t the best athlete, doesn’t have a good tank, but you can’t teach his natural forward ability and goal kicking nous. He understands timing and space better than just about any forward in the game.

I remember saying in his draft year that his high level IQ would hold him in good stead at AFL level despite his lack of height and any sort of outstanding athleticism.

I was excited by the Goad pick, but I desperately wanted Freijah!

It’s relatively early days, but it is looking more than likely that we fumbled that 2023 draft hand.
