OK so I watch almost all of the first set of the Murray/Gasquet match last night before heading off to bed because I was starting to feel ill. So I recorded Channel 9 on my Foxtel IQ for the next 2 and a half hours. I also taped the following time slot in case the match was a marathon.
So I watch the recorded match today, becoming increasingly interested in the match as it wore on. Got to a 4th set thanks to some Murray brilliance, and about midway through the fourth we hear the commentator say that that’s the end of their coverage, we will now be going to the Today show, but we will keep you updated with the scores. What do they do? Go to Malcolm in the Middle, at about 5am, I’m sure everyone was dying to catch that repeat episode! Then they go to the Today show, a ratings bonanza. What an absolute disgrace. 4th Round match, extremely good tennis being played, and they cut out coverage to show a repeat of Malcolm in the freaking Middle?!
Lucky I decided to also record Fox Sports’ coverage, and I caught the early stages of the fifth set which basically hinted at the fact Murray would indeed go on to win this epic match. After watching the whole match I missed the final few games, because I didn’t think to record an extra time slot on a channel that wasn’t even meant to be covering the match.
So in summary, Channel 9, you are a disgrace.
