Luke Jericho

Hey guys.

I was wondering what you guys thought of this guy. Is he going to cement a spot in the 22? Or will he just be a fringe player before being eventually delisted?

To be honest it's a make or break year, with his quickness and skills he should be a gun player but questions over his hardness remain. He finished of the season strongly in the 2's and hopefully 06 will be a big year :)

He's a bit of a mystery in some ways. He has all the goodies to succeed, but just doesn't seem to want it hard enough.

I don't think that Jericho will make it up forward, or long term on a wing because of his "soft" approach at both the man and the ball.

Where he just might really make his niche though is on a HBF. He has all the attributes to succeed there - pace for rebound, a great leap to spoil, a booming kick to turn defence into attack.

Remember when Hentschel started up forward rather timidly? Almost like a frozen rabbit in the the headlights at times. They put him back, he gradually built up confidence, and now is a more than capable forward.

Jericho's best chance of success IMO is to follow the same path as Hentschel.

Re: Luke Jericho

Luke isn't a forward at AFl level, he is a wingman turn half forward flanker. As a youngster he always played in the midfield before he grew but the thing about him is even with his height he is still very quick and athletic. Play him on the wing like he does at Westies let him use his speed and his booming kick.

Dont know how many Westies games you've seen but Luke has played forward more than on a wing and the last 6 or so games he played in the middle. ;)

I played under 13's and under 15's with Luke at Waikerie and than under 17's and a few under 19's games with him at Westies and he is a wingman/midfielder period, he always has been and always will be.
I remember a game earlier this year against Sturt where he kick 7 from half forward/wing it was the most dominate display i have ever seen from him especially seeing he was matched up by Andrew Beveridge one of the best at his style of game in the SANFL. Play him from a wing Neil let the guy show you how good he is, he will suprise a few if he gets his chances.

He will be going to get a spot on the wing ahead of Mattner, Burton and Reilly.
He will turn 22 next year. If he doesn't play some good AFL footy in 06, I can see him fighting it out with Massie, S Stevens, Bode, Doughty, Skip to stay on the list ahead of the Super Draft.

Luke has more scope than any of the 3 you mentioned other than probably Rielly. He has big upside all he needs to do is get his attitude right and put on another 3-4kgs.

Jericho put in the worst effort I have ever seen from a footballer tonight, I am absolutely disgusted. I’ve never been a fan of Luke, always been disappointed with the lackluster effort he continuously displays. However in the NAB Cup he had been playing well and I even thought that he may deserve a place for Round 1. Tonight was a nice test to see how well he stands up in pressure situations, and we all got the answer. It’s painfully clear that he’s not cut out to be an AFL footballer; the effort he shows is nothing short of pathetic. I don’t want to see him playing in the AFL again.

What's your verdict?

Re: Your Verdict: Luke Jericho

I thought he tried hard tonight but had issues with his nerves.
He found the ball plenty of times but lacked composure and that happens to alot of players in GF's
Previosly his effort has been a issue, tonight it was his finnishing.

Re: Your Verdict: Luke Jericho

If not gone he's hanging on by a thread.
Be honest would you pick him in a (serious) finals match ever after tonight's performance?

Problem is the guys you mentioned are midfielders and Jericho is a forward/utility.

Nerves is one thing, effort is another. It’s not as though this is a one off shocker for Jericho, it happens basically every week. His desire and hunger is nowhere near good enough to be playing in the AFL, and tonight it was made evident for all to see.

Yes he played like absolute crap last night but you cant judge him on one game can you? seriously.
Not just one game. Everyone has shockers when things just don’t go right, but they keep fighting and persisting. Jericho doesn’t.

Delist can play the rest of the year with West Adelaide, has lost his place to the likes of Knights, Van berlo and Vince.

I think Jericho may have slipped down into Massie, S Stevens territory after tonights performance. I would have the youngsters Reilly, Knights, VB, Vince, Porp, Hinge, Douglas all ahead of Jericho in the pecking order.

My observations were that when it was evident he was not up to it,he kept trying and kept running to the contests. The more he stuffed up it appeared the more the pressure got to him.
I cant critisise his endevour but his composure seriously hurt us tonight.

Re: Your Verdict: Luke Jericho

Dreadful tonight.

Unless the Crows have some serious injury blows, he won't play in Round 1 and will have to work bloody hard to get a call-up from the SANFL.

The fat lady is singing .....

He's been with us for a few years now. He has actually shown a bit over the last few weeks - done some nice stuff. The problem is that he has always been terribly soft. His skills are not good enough to make up for that. I thought he might be a chance to make it after his last few games (and his decent enough SANFL form last year), but I'm now 100% confident that he's a dud. He's just far far far too soft. He would have fixed that up at least partially by now if he was ever going to.

Re: Your Verdict: Luke Jericho

I have to say that was an embarrassing performance from a would be AFL footballer.

He let his team down badly and more importantly he let himself down. If Craig was serious that he is playing for his career, then he went a long way tonight towards delistment.

I thought that we had got rid of all softness in the club, but that was as bad as I've seen.

I heard Craig say that he left Jericho on for him to learn. I have to disagree with Craig on this occasion, because I just can't see what he learnt by that effort - or lack of. He would have certainly lost the respect of his team-mates tonight, which actually showed at times if you were at the game..

If he wears the tri-colours ever again, I can only hope that we never see a repetition of what we saw from him tonight.
