Re: Pavlich hints at SA return

Couple of years ago we were in "desperate" need of a key forward .....

We have since recruited some fine prospects such that the asking price would not now equate to the value of the need.

Did Craig say he prefer's to develop from within? .....suspect there may just not be a matching of needs now by both parties .....pity

Re: Pavlich hints at SA return

what a coincidence that his contract is running out.

although it would be lovely to get pavlich, we would need to give fremantle the whole team! they would just want way too much.

Isn't that the truth

Re: Pavlich hints at SA return

"And I barracked for the Crows when I was younger so it's hard to say what will happen. For the next 12 months, at least, I'm the captain of the Fremantle Football Club.

"I took the captaincy saying, 'We'll see after 12 months - how I feel in the captain's role, how the players perceive me and how the club goes'. We'll wait and see."

Sunday Mail (SA)

Frankly, I am surprised an AFL Captain made some of the comments Pav did. Agree with most perceiving deal very unlikely

Re: Pavlich hints at SA return

If we ignore the fact its a journo in a one paper town looking for something to write about.

Lets look at this seriously. Pav understandably would like to go home at some stage, whether this is to play footy or not who knows.

Pav has too much integrity and honour to ever do the dirty on Freo, so lets concede PSD is not an option (obviously yer not gonna win a spoon) in the next few years either. He also wont throw the captaincy back end of this year so 2008 trade is it.

What would you seriously offer us, he'd be arguably be worth a mix of the equivalent of 2/3 first rounders or quality experienced players of similar age in Trade period 2008. Throw this scenario in with Gibbs being available in 2\3yrs, who do you chase ? Pav or Gibbs ??

Most would see Pav with deteriorating shoulders and age and shorter careers for interstate players than Vic based inferior to young Gibbs. I cant see you chasing both. If you are going to gut your list to get one it will be for Gibbs. Craig does appear to perfer developing players than trading, so he may go for one but cant for both.

Re: Pavlich hints at SA return

the window for being willing and able to deal for Pav at the level the market would expect has passed for our club.

It's no longer an issue IMO

Spot on MD. We had our chance in 2002. We will never have the draft picks or trade options to meet a Pavlich deal anyway. I reckon the Paps may have had a chance a year or two ago in a package deal when the likes of White and Surjan were at the very promising stage ( ie before they played any AFL footy ). But neither club has a chance in hell of luring him back now.

Re: Pavlich hints at SA return

Arguably you right with no disrepect intended. The longer Pav stays also the idea of being a one team player also appeals more and the B&F will be the Pav medal.

Gibbs might be achievable and gain a good 10yrs out of him. Use him as a foundation for the next build.

Re: Pavlich hints at SA return

don't agree we "overpaid" for either

Pick 4 (up graded to pick 2) for Carey and a top 10 pick for Hall. IMO we over paid for both, but you can disagree.

Sorry not over paid but paid above market value at the time.

pick 4 - cut this upgraded crap - in the worst draft in memory. meh.

what precisely was the trade for Hall? it was certainly in a time when the draft was a wild and unpredictable shoot out - the wild west of drafting!

no such thing as above market value - seeing as the price sets the market.

Cmon Crow Mos you know thats absolute cr@p. How many examples of poor trading (above market value trades) do you want to choose from to disprove your comment:

Bode for pick 12 - Crows clearly paid above market value

Groom for Mc Leod (ie likely 1st choice in 94 draft) - Freo got flogged in this trade. Groom was a reasonable prospect to anyone who followed the team back then - but certainly nowhere near a top 10, let alone top pick. Obvious at the time.

With your line of 'reasoning' if the Crows last October had traded Stiffy, VB, Trent H and Bock for Carltons No1 pick and then used it to bring back David Gallagher then according to you that would be his market value - coz it was his price. An absolute nonsense. Teams bugger up and do pay above market value as C98 correctly identified

Re: Pavlich hints at SA return

What did Kane's signature say. But just this once...

a little information is a dangerous thing.
of course, one might point out that freely traded, exchange listed, securities' pricing mechanisms might be quite different to the market in private sales where a public market does not exist. but hey, why ruin a poor example with a little fact.

Bode for pick 12 - Crows clearly paid above market value

that's right. a rational decision maker, deliberately chose to give away more than they had to. clearly.

Groom for Mc Leod (ie likely 1st choice in 94 draft) - Freo got flogged in this trade. Groom was a reasonable prospect to anyone who followed the team back then - but certainly nowhere near a top 10, let alone top pick. Obvious at the time.

yup, so obvious at the time:
- So obvious Freo needed to throw in an extra pick to get a reasonable prospect for a guy considered the no.1 potential pick.
- So obvious that there were members of the Crows hierarchy who didn't want to do the deal.
- So obvious that Cornes, Groom's first year coach, still says he was such an outstanding prospect that he would not have sanctioned the deal.

good thing it was so obvious to everyone.

With your line of 'reasoning' if the Crows last October had traded Stiffy, VB, Trent H and Bock for Carltons No1 pick and then used it to bring back David Gallagher then according to you that would be his market value - coz it was his price.

you don't know very much about market principles do you?

but here's a 10 second education for you.
in a public market place, if the offer is 10, and you bid 15, then the SEC investigates.
in a private market place, if the seller expects 10, and the private buyer offers 15 - then the price is the market at 15. sure internet losers and nobodies might argue that the informed buyer paid too much, but that doesn't carry as much currency, as well, currency!

An absolute nonsense. Teams bugger up and do pay above market value as C98 correctly identified

based on the uniformed opinions of an errant BF poster? yup, that certainly seems more reliable than a real, arms length transaction in the market place.

you couldn't make it up.

Re: Pavlich hints at SA return

That could be damaging to your reputation old man. :D
Reputation?
Lost that a long long time ago me thinks. :p

EDIT: Hell that took a long time to fix the spelling errors. :D

Sounds good to me. Although i think you will be looking a bit further than Sellar if you want the next Pavlich. What you have in Sellar is Justin Longmuir/Josh Fraser.
