I remember in the late 90's when I was a student and working night fill at my local supermarket and they always had late night love songs on 94.5 on every night.

By the time I finished up I knew every word to Celine Dion, Mariah Carey and even a bit of Chris Rea

I listen to podcasts on my cycle to work - favourites include:
  • How to Be Amazing with Michael Ian Black
  • Ear Hustle
  • The Minefield
  • Econtalk
  • The Lucky Country
  • Planet Money
  • 99% Invisible
  • Invisibilia
  • Glory Guerrillas

I’ve taken up listening to podcasts - it causes me less angst
yep me too - plus I rotate thru listening to SEN app (while working from home on the computer or if driving thru Bluetooth) depending on show, 6pr, and with optus I get iheartradio metered free so have my fave artists etc thru that.

If ever in the car on a week day have been listening to some of the more random community stations up the high end of the dial. Heritage FM on 107.3 plays some random gear. Capitol chucks up the odd great track.

Pods are great for a ride to work.

I listen to BBC Football Daily if during the season (when isn't it) to see what's gone on the night before and switch between episodes of Conversations, Nightlife and Life Matters on the ABC app. Also stuff like West Wing Weekly.

On the off chance I am not using Spotify in the car my saved stations are 92.9, 93.7, 94.5, 96.1, 98.5 and 99.3

I will just cycle them until I come across a song I don't mind, the worst is when ALL 6 of them are not playing music at the same time

I actually find the Christian pop (mass produced in the US, mostly) they play these days to be mind-numbing. They changed their playlist a few years ago, used to have a bit more rock (Christian and non). But I'm glad they're around.

Christian rock is awful. It doesn't make Christianity more appealing, it just makes rock worse.

As ioppolo said, 98.5 doesn't exclusively play Christian stuff so I blindly switch up and down between stations and one minute it's an OK song then the next it's Faith +1.

I do this, except I have presets from 91.3 up to 101.7 because that's what was there when I bought the car. Amazing how often all the stations are talking/playing ads simultaneously. I reckon I've had 2 of the 4 major commercial stations playing the same song barely a few seconds apart about half a dozen times, too.

98.5 doesn't just play Christian songs thankfully, though the their religious speeches are a bit much

It's a volunteer radio station whose ultimate purpose is to reach people with the gospel. What do you expect?

I don't think the problem with Christian pop/rock/rap is the content - most fans of music don't pay attention to the lyrics until well after they've started enjoying the song. It's that it's mass produced and often quite bland.

But of course, I would say that the content isn't a problem, wouldn't I? Although if I can bear listening to music whose content I don't necessarily agree with, I don't see why you couldn't either.

It just doesn't mesh. Rock goes together with sex and drugs like peas go together carrots and some other vegetable. The whole idea of a rock band that parties all night... but only until 10pm because they need to be up for Sunday mass is just silly. Stevie Wright, Bon Scott, Jimmy Barnes, Michael Hutchence. These are rock front men from big Australian bands. Nobody wants to see a rock band fronted by some dork in neat slacks and a short sleeved collared shirt. Kind of like how no one wants to see a rapper with gold teeth and tatts rapping about cruising the mean streets of middle class suburbia with his fellow college grads.

Yeah religion is nonsense and it's still nonsense if put to chords.

Midnight Oil don't really fit this characterisation, do they? Rock music is only dependent on the music.

cool story bro

Talk about blinkered
Black sabbath are christians, As is U2, Lenny Kravitz, Mumford and Sons, Evanescence, in fact there’s heaps of them and it’s just mixed in with their mainstream music. Don’t even start on rappers because you wouldn’t know where to start. Your comments are quite bizzare considering your normal posting history

If I ever get to the stage where I'm only interested in hearing music I already know from my past I'm going to book a trip to Switzerland or wherever that old fella went.
Same; 96FM is horrid, even if I don't mind some of the songs. It's the blandness and lack of variety.

I put uo with it at work every day. They just have a playlist of 400 songs they play every single day. Ruins my liking of certain bands and songs.

As more time passes, nostalgia stations should have a greater well of tunes to choose from. But despite having one of the greatest decades to source from, 96FM still seems to focus on '70s and '80s.
