I'm not sure it's fascism. Its using the power of the state to enforce a political position with a suppression of individual rights, isolating power in a small group or singular position under the guise of a group benefit in a nationalist fashion, promoting the us v them to distract from the cause of the social anxiety - which in this case is a hotel system they knew was flawed but had been successful to date keeping the barely fatal virus at bay.

And you can tell it's political because there are different methods to handle a case or two even in this country's jurisdictions.

I felt from the very start constantly calling him the 'Melbourne case/man' was some subtle way to try and shift the publics perception of the blame to the eastern states.

You may have seen a document being shared on social media which extended WA’s State of Emergency until May 7, 2021.

Many people are interpreting this document as an extension of Perth’s current 3 day COVID-19 lockdown.

That is incorrect. This document DOES NOT mean lockdown is being extended by two weeks.

We’ll explain. A State of Emergency declaration basically allows authorities to wield certain powers under the emergency management act. In this case, it is things like fining people for not wearing a mask.

State of Emergency’s have been declared in WA for many reasons, usually natural disasters.

The current State of Emergency was declared in March 2020 at the beginning of the pandemic. It has been procedurally extended every fortnight since as WA continues to deal with COVID-19.

The Emergency Services Minister —who is currently Reece Whitby —is required to sign off on the extension and it is published online.

That document is being shared on social media and misinterpreted as an extension of the lockdown.

The lockdown could very well be extended —in fact, the Premier did not rule that out in his Sunday press conference.

But this document does not mean that is the case.

Channel 7, 10 and others are going with 'Melbourne/Victorian' man. The numbers are given to cases in WA. For example, the third case from this outbreak is referred to as 986.

The Melbourne/Victorian man never tested positive in WA.

If there are no more cases this time tomorrow I'd be happy with lock down over as scheduled, but reduced capacity crowds at gatherings and sporting grounds, hell I'd accept the derby having no crowd, just lift the lock down. Obviously keep the masks for another few weeks.
