Pfft how old are you? You must be 30+ with kids if you think Perth is a better place to live.

I'm a little bit like "Mr I Hate Perth"
I have mates like you who were just like you, its was always:
"Perth is crap and its so small"
"Melbourne is so awesome, there is always something to do"
blah, blah, blah

And now they have all returned to Perth as the novelty of melbourne has worn off and they realised if they want to go to a nice beach on a nice sunny day that most of the beaches are shite or the winters are so depressing.

I'm heading back to Sydney once I believe I have enough work experience to get stable work over there.

Different strikes for different folks, as Couch Potato said. I wouldn't be that keen if I was my mother or father.

One thing I wont get over there is the insularity of the other cities. Would be happy with living in Melbourne and wouldn't mind a stint in Darwin.

Sydney yeah for sure but Victorians are some of the most insular and parochial people in the country for mine.

Wow never met people with so much Perth love.

Fair call but it ain't a city for me.. Too boring for me, too small, too many bikies. ✌️
I wouldn't head down king st in melbourne if you don't like too many bikies

If anything Perth's not too small- it's getting too big.

A Perth with Melbourne's population is a nightmare.

But if you want to go to Melbourne then good on you for actually trying it out.

There's is nothing more annoying than the 'Mr I Hate Perth' who never actually ever leaves.

What about the one that returns and crows about how good it was in Melbourne or Sydney or wherever compared to Perth.

Well what are you doing back here then!!!!

I've found Melbourne has become too overrated here and Perth somewhat underrated. The only reason I would ever go back to Melbourne would be to watch the footy or maybe catch up with some friends. Even they wonder why Perth people think Melbourne is so great.

Agree with this, especially about haters who never leave and contribute nothing to make the place better.

One thing I love about Melbourne is that every time I go there I don't need a car. I can't imagine what people coming to Perth without a car actually do. People who rave about Melbourne generally don't say anything beyond coffee/restaurants/sport/culture/shopping. What I find strange is when people move to new places and just do the same things they did in the previous place. Like Aussies who move to London then spend their time working Mon-Fri then hanging out on weekends at Aussie pubs and playing footy. Couldn't you do that here? Anyway... I'm not planning a move to Melbourne in the near future but should I ever move there I will attend lots of games of footy, head up to the snow a few weekends in winter and enjoy not having to use my car. If I ever move there and live in an outer suburb and spend my weekends in shopping malls and Bunnings I hope someone shoots me.

Perth's relatively small population feels big because the city is so car centric. The new stadium is going to be a disaster until people let go of the mindset that you can just jump in the car half an hour before the game, park nearby and stroll down to the oval for the first bounce. I drove past Champion Lakes yesterday and could see the 'waterfront' apartments. Looks cool, even if it is miles from the city and basically Gosnells. Yet 15km closer to the city and right near rail infrastructure the zoning is R20 and R30.

It's a curious city. The place is filled with people who are wealthy because of urban sprawl who hate urban sprawl. Well I hate urban sprawl, but you can't have it both ways.

Scotland, That is exactly what my daughter said. She has been living in London for just over 12 months and went to an australia day event and couldn't believe the number of people who only drink at aussie pubs and hang with aussie people and hadn't stepped out of that thinking the whole time they had been there. She said she actually feels and thinks like a local because she was determined to immerse herself in English culture right from the beginning, otherwise she didn't see the point in going. She met her first australian when staying in a hostel in amsterdam not while living in London.

So many salty people in this thread lmao..

I didn't say Perth was a shithole.. I like Perth for its beaches and simple living. But can't blame someone who's 25 and lived in Perth 15 years, for wanting to explore? Feck.. And Melbourne is the best option for me in terms of work, cost of living and living arrangements.

People live in different cities for different reasons. I bet all the reasons I'm leaving Perth are for all the reasons you stay in Perth.

Most people in Perth has heard this 100 times before.

I can't recommend exploring enough. If you spend your whole life in one place - Perth or otherwise - you're missing out on a hell of a lot.

It's the 'too boring for me', 'too small for me' crap that draws one of these::rolleyes:. Especially from someone who by their own admission hasn't really been anywhere else.

Have fun, don't become Silent Alarm.

Does anyone know of any pubs in Perth that will be playing the FA cup tonight apart from the casino?

Probably some pub down in Rockingham or up in Joondalup

New sports bar in Northbridge would be playing it.

If any pub is open past midnight then I'd assume they would be showing it. Give your local a call and ask if they are.
