I'll just leave this analysis from Keys here and be on my way ;)
Sounds like I offended you, Kane. :( My apologies. I think you know what I mean, though, by my comment about an easy fixture. Keyser Soze has given the games vs this year's current ladder positions but in terms of opponents' 2014 ladder position (which the fixture was based on), West Coast doubled up against teams which came 4th, 10th, 12th, 14th and 18th. In comparison Freo play twice against teams which were 5th, 6th, 8th, 9th and 17th in 2014, Geelong played twice against teams that were 1st, 2nd, 6th, 10th and 11th- despite being knocked out early in the finals. It only takes a win against a 17th or 18th placed team to be the difference between 4th and 5th. Currently the Eagles are 2nd, 1 win away from being in 5th. 2 wins from being 7th. How the hell did Freo manage to score 2 games against Melbourne?? wtf?

Don't get me wrong- I think the fixture stinks. I hate the inequality of the derbies- none more so than when the Swans played GWS for several years running when they were just kids.

I don't have any answer- just like having a whinge about what might have been if we each played every other opponent once- in random order, with no teams having any more 6 day breaks than any other, just to suit the AFL's agenda and TV schedules. And randomly drawn fixture, not cunningly FIXtured games.. so if you cop 3 6-day breaks against top 4 teams in a row when they've all had 7 or 8 day breaks, we all know it's because of the randomness of the draw, not because the AFL decided that they wanted to make things difficult.

All good TC but you can't use 2014's form guide as to how well you've done in the 2015 fixture. If you go by last year people would be clambering to play the Bulldogs twice and not Port, but given the choice this year you'd be crazy to not have it the other way around.

So is it harder to play WC or Port twice in 2015?
That's a bloody tough one- if you base it on last year's performances, I'd say Port. This year, I'd say WC are more difficult. But it also depends on what time of the year you hit them. With West Coast's current injury list, Port might actually be looking the more dangerous of the two.

I can see where you're coming from- (*I think). You are saying the fixture is not as easy as it looked because you're evaluating opponents on their performances THIS year rather than last year but if you actually look at teams like St Kilda, Melbourne, etc.- their positions are inflated by the fact that they have played bottom 8 teams more often than they've played top 8 teams- does that make sense? So the positions of middle teams also will be inflated by easier games relative to the top 8 teams.

Yeah, I was just trying to outline that above.

To me, at the beginning of this season, I'd have said Port=Bulldogs in terms of what I'd expect the difficulty of games against them to be

Yeah the "WCE have an easy draw" excuse seems to be rather poorly thought out. A bit of analysis would prove otherwise.
Two games against the wooden spooners might be the difference between 2nd and 5th. That was pretty much what my original point was. Then who'd have expected the Gold Coast to have fallen like they have? You also got them twice. So I think my perceptions were originally based on 2014 results, with a shake of 2015 performance thrown in.

That brings back some memories.

Used to be one of our last resort pubs where you could grab a desperate drunk middle aged woman on the rebound from a failed marriage.
What's that shocking place right on the corner of William and James? Absolute shithole, full of FIFOs, red-faced alcoholics who have been drinking since 1pm, and full on gaggles of horrible 37-year olds on Hen's Nights. Worst Of Perth.

2014 form means nothing. On 2014 form a trip to Gold Coast is a daunting prospect.

The draw is a joke, but easy and hard is influenced by actual season performances. Our draw looked pretty easy on paper, but when a team like the Dogs who we play twice become a top 4 contender that changes. Likewise Freo getting Port twice doesn't look so bad now. This debate will go on forever while we have a 22/18 thing going on.

Brass Monkey?
Ay! Knew it had it a name like that. I remember being there once or twice in summer, just for one or two, and by 8pm the place was crawling with expats – remember seeing a beautiful alliance of Eire-English union, with a lovely Irish fella fingering a not-really-young lass right near that back bar. Wasn't surprised.

I last went there before a show at the state theatre. Ordered a beer upstairs (Asahi I think, the only one on tap) and the girl told me it was $14 and asked if I really wanted it, instead suggesting I go to the other bar about 20m walk away where they have beers that aren't $14. Good on her. Did not observe any fingering, though.

Bars with two different prices? Far out.

That bottom one is always incredibly busy too. Reckon I ordered rounds at about 6 and 7 and it was like being at a nightclub at midnight.

I do understand your POV and would say that I would defend my team if we were in the same position as where you are- hopefully you can see where I'm coming from as well.

The real amusing fixture is the Hawks playing the Blues twice and the second game being the last round and on a Friday night. Now surely the afl didn't think that was going to be a joke at the time

We seem to have a few random games vs teams that beat us the previous year, which I reckon are the AFL setting us up. e.g. vs Brisbane and Adelaide - I think after 2013, maybe? And obviously you copped us every year since 2008 or whenever. Luckily we always matched up pretty well but it's becoming a bit of a non-event lately. No Chappy passion anymore, either. I think we should play wooden spooners twice every year ;)

He was arseholed for questioning then PM Gillard's husband's sexuality. I think he was working on a wrongful dismissal case against his former employer. I haven't heard him on the radio since.
I recall he went over to Sydney to host a show.

Quickly came back to Perth with his tail between his legs.

Went down the Kwinana just after 3 this arvo and with the new lanes finally being open it was nice not going at a crawl through there. 4 lanes right down to Beeliar Drive/Armadale Road with a sign saying works to start at Russell Road next month.

it's just SO beautiful, isn't it?? :hearts:

I was going down Berrigan last night at 5.30- and it wasn't even bogged up for kilometres as it usually is. :) I'm so happy!!! I might even be able to go back to going home via Karel and Berrigan every night like I used to, now that Karel won't be used as a rat-run so often anymore.
