Gardiner's spoils and interference tonight was top shelf.

He's got this fantastic ability to make a nuisance of himself at just the right time. A lot of the time, he doesn't even effect the spoil - he puts just enough body on to put the marking player off the contest but not so much that he gives away frees. You can see why people made comparisons with Silvagni. They are different looking players but both have that ability to rarely be out of the contest.

The fact that 26.5k turned up yesterday despite the fact we're coming dead last (although playing a big team in a good timeslot helps)

Also the fact that the utterly disgraceful "Lions in stripes" thing finally ****ed off. Black and white stripes should NEVER be acceptable attire at the Gabba, and definitely not promoted by the club. I hope the AFL in their mid-week intervention sacked whoever was responsible for allowing that in the first place.

Positive....

Sorry not sure if its already been posted. Remembering I'm from the Roy side of the family.

The jumper on the weekend looked great. Big thumbs up. Put a Lion on the front, make the numbers blue if necessary, and it makes a fantastic clash jumper for those occasions where there is a genuine and absolute clash.

Represents part of our history, whereas a white jumper doesn't. Avoids a clash. Uses colours traditional to both sides of the family plus the now traditional Brisbane Lions colours. To me its a bit of a no-brainer.

Was just coming on here to say the same thing (i am a former Fitzroy boy too) - only got to watch the game last night. I am going to have to get myself one. Looked magnificent. Would love to see it worn more.

My son said the exact same thing to me after the game the other night.

It's a great idea:thumbsu:

My positive; we'll start 2015 (barring unforseen circumstances) with nearly 20 players, currently 25 or under, but mostly a lot younger, that will form a very decent team moving forward.

Very good player to Potential Star Level:
Rockliff Rich Redden Hanley Zorko Green Mayes Leuenberger Paparone Aish Taylor

Solid player to Very good player Level:
Beams Harwood Lester Bewick Clarke Gardiner Robertson Cutler

Haven't seen enough of to pass comment:
Crisp McStay Close Freeman Wearden Paine

One player baffles me completely:
Golby - NFI which is the real Mitch

All in all, a decent crop that my gut tells me will quickly develop (with more resources) and will overtake quite a few teams that are more highly thought of, especially in Melbourne (Bulldogs, Carlton, Richmond, North).

Glaring deficiencies: Key forward, negating midfielder, super quick midfielder.

Oh, and add a top 5 pick from the upcoming draft & probably Hammelmann too :thumbsu:

It looks like Leppa is trying to develop Robbo into a Hocking/Cross type of player - not really a full on tagging role but still negating the oppositions best player while also getting the ball himself and assisting the team.

It is interesting to look at our age profile (as of mid-May) as a whole list and consider how it compares to others:

18 y.o. - Brisbane 6 Gold Coast 1 Hawthorn 3
19 y.o. - Brisbane 7 Gold Coast 6 Hawthorn 3
20 y.o. - Brisbane 5 Gold Coast 4 Hawthorn 7
21 y.o. - Brisbane 2 Gold Coast 9 Hawthorn 3
22 y.o. - Brisbane 3 Gold Coast 7 Hawthorn 1
23 y.o. - Brisbane 4 Gold Coast 3 Hawthorn 8
24 y.o. - Brisbane 2 Gold Coast 3 Hawthorn 3
25 y.o. - Brisbane 4 Gold Coast 1 Hawthorn 4
26 y.o. - Brisbane 1 Gold Coast 1 Hawthorn 3
27 y.o. - Brisbane 2 Gold Coast 2 Hawthorn 2
28 y.o. - Brisbane 2 Gold Coast 2 Hawthorn 1
29 y.o. - Brisbane 4 Gold Coast 1 Hawthorn 2
30 + - Brisbane 3 Gold Coast 2 Hawthorn 5

The under 20's probably tells a fair bit of our story:

Under 20 - Brisbane 18 Gold Coast 11 Hawthorn 13

We are a young list with a lot of development ahead. A large chunk of our list are a couple of years further back than Gold Coast and probably a year or two more behind Hawthorn. As our young group develop physically and in experience and game-sense we are going to have a great ride in the next few years I think.

I can see Robbo ending up much like Nathan Jones of Melbourne.
