22 games of Fyfe....... if it happens you'll be up there abouts.

Personally I'm hoping for 2 games of Fyfe followed by behavioural problems that can only be resolved by a trip to Vic and the loving arms of Essendon.

Otherwise that boy is going to destroy the league by foot....

Every January the season looks really open. By the time June comes around it's obvious who the contenders are and we scoff at our preseason predictions.

No I don't reckon there has been a season when this many teams at the start would be genuinely filthy that they missed top 4. I mean to start, which of Sydney, Freo, WCE and Adelaide do you think will miss. Cos if none do then there is no room for Hawthorn, Collingwood and Geelong. I think there are a genuine 7 teams that have the talent to be top 4. And that is without considering the second rung - North, Essendon, Carlton, Richmond, StKilda.

I can't recall a season like that. Usually there are 2 or 3 locks and 2 or 3 hopefuls.

not to mention the fact they played mostly bottom 8 sides in the 1st half of the year, then when they started playing decent sides, they had injuries so we couldn't see what they were made of.
If we are to talk about precedence then Richmond supporters should stfu.

lol at the bitter pies supporter attempting dumb logic ...so because Carlton haven't finbished top four for a while ...they can't do it this Year .

well folks you can't argue with sound logic like that lol

Good thing nobody told the Swans this before they won their Flag after so many Years

what do I have to be bitter about?

you guys beat us twice last year? couldnt care less.

lets see how you go with mick's boundary line game plan and no kpf

when was the last time you finished above collingwood? 2004?

when was the last time you finished top 4? 2001?

not bitter. just stating it how I see it. and using facts.

sydney consistently were finalists for two years before they won their flag in 2005. blues have been inconsistent and sacked their coach. poor example.

im using facts to illustrate my point and you pass it off as 'dumb logic'. give me some of your 'good logic'

This. I am of the opinion they would have lost the majority of those 2nd half of the season games, even with a fit squad. Carlton might be able to get away with the injury excuse, not Essendon.

Thats your opinion. Now see me post above.

Not that I have looked too far back in history but is the "premiership window" more crowded this year than any other? By my reckoning the following clubs would all have SERIOUS expectations of a Top 4 finish,

Hawthorn
Collingwood
Carlton
Swans
WCE
Adelaide
North
Richmond?
Geelong
Fremantle.

And but for probably Richmond and North, not too many would be surprised if any of the others made it.

Pretty sure we had the same discussion this time last year and by about Round 6-8, the field had narrowed, and by Round 16, the top four was settled.

Essendon were top 4 halfway through last year. Without a similar injury curse I see no reason why they wouldn't have realistic aspirations to get there too. I'm sure there are internal expectations there, whatever BigFooty might think

At the time you were top four you had beaten North (8th) (just) Port (14th) Gold Coast (17th) Carlton (10th) West Coast (5th but at home) Richmond (12th) GWS (18th) Melbourne (16th) and lost to Collingwood (4th) and Sydney (1st). You hadnt to that point played teams who finished second third sixth seventh or ninth.

and you'd assume we've improved having another year of experience under the belt, with some handy aquisitions and no significant losses. So again, I'm sure the internal expectations would be very high.

No you are using opinion ...and silly analogies ...more like just plain wishful thinking on your behalf...with a bit of ommission tossed in ...Carlton played Finals the last couple of Years except for last Year where they just missed out after a horror run with Injuries .

There is no saying they can't finish top 4 no matter how much you hate them, and if they do then they are a chance for the Flag just as any other top 4 team will be .

Youre point was that you were in the top four last year. I was just pointing out it was because of the vagaries of the draw. Apart from the home game against the Eagles you hadnt beaten anybody of note, just teams below you and around you.

vagaries of the draw aside, we were in the top 4 halfway through last year. I do know who we beat Timmy, I was there.

You should also point out that our only two losses were by a total of 5 points. Collingwood by 1 point and Sydney by 4 points.

Sure, if you discount for the fact that you played all the shit teams and lost to both the top four teams you played., you were in the top four.

see the post above yours. We lost to your mob by a point, Sydney by 4, then got crippled with injuries.

But thanks for acknowledging what is, after all, a fact.

Who were the teams last year? I would have thought the genuine Top 4 contenders start of last year were Hawthorn, Pies, Cats, Saints, WCE maybe Swans. Adelaide ended up coming from no where.

Remember I am not talking about teams that fancied their chances. I am talking about teams that most football supporters of all teams would think were a strong contender.

Couldnt be bothered going back through all the threads saying how 2012 was going to be the most openly contested season for years. Crows were in that mix because of their easy draw. Certainly Carlton were in that mix too.

no doubt in my mind. Not sure how anyone could realistically think that Richmond are more advanced than Essendon, however far they've come along.

Richmond have more talent on their list imo, but Essendon have better senior players.

Will be when Richmonds youth find consistency that they will rise, that may well be in 2013 as they are trending upwards.
