What can we do with a 7 hour stopover in Sydney? We'll have the two kids with us and they'll lose their minds if they have to sit down the whole time.
My immediate reaction was to suggest "book a room at the Airport Hilton and have a ****". Then I read the 2nd sentence.

luggage in lockers and catch train for a day to circular key for some opera house/bridge views and lunch, then maybe train to darling harbour and do something there (aquarium?) and then train back to airport?!?
im not in sydney but did somethign similar about 15 years ago when i had a daytime layover

Yeah if you’re tuning a girl it means you’re chatting her up

It was everywhere when I was in high school and early 20s and then it just disappeared

Not sure if it’s because it went out of fashion generally or we all just grew up

I went to school in the 2000s and early 2010s - was still in use. My partner's much younger sister confirmed to us earlier in the year that no one says it anymore.

If I’m getting my roof replaced under insurance, can I claim the cost of remediating damage done during the repair process? These blokes are doing a real number on the lawn and garden beds.

I really have no idea. I would say that probably 60% of the damage is unavoidable (you can’t put scaffolding right around the house and garage without squashing some plants) and 40% is careless (dragging shit across the lawn and scuffing it, stepping on things, dinging the new paintwork).

All in all they are not doing a bad job given the level of TLC I expect from scaffolders but will probably cost a couple of grand to fix once all is said and done.

I would like to send the insurance company the bill because IMO it is all part and parcel of getting the roof fixed. Not sure if they will cop it though.

what I mean is I am only dealing with the insurance company, they have engaged the roofers and the scaffolders

I don’t really care who is ultimately liable as long as it falls within the scope of getting my roof claim resolved

Sounds like I’m gonna have to spend some time on the phone sorting through my policy :(

There would need to be a due care type of clause in the insurer's agreement with the roofers. Your contract is not with the roofers so you don't deal with them directly. Your contract is with the insurer. If they have a clause that excuses them from any liability for damage (and it's legal) then you are left holding the bag.

But I am sure this isn't a unique situation.
