is there an affordable way to see a psychologist?

I think the only way I've seen to get referred via GP is to basically say I'm considering ending it, but that's not truth.

It seems to me like it's hard to get someone 'to talk to' without having to drop $200+/ph
you can get a GP referral for I believe 10 subsidized sessions but then you have to find someone that can take you on as a patient, you will still be out of pocket a lot of money most likely and you will have to be able to do the sessions during business hours mostly

there is also the option if you are willing and can find one of seeing a provisional psychologist, once you have completed all your studies you need to work for 4-5 years and get enough patient hours to get registered as a psychologist

some places will have the option for seeing a provisional psychologist, you don't need the GP referral for that generally and you might be paying $60 for a session instead of $200+ for example, not sure what rates are like in 2024

Does it have to be a psychologist?

Through my work you have access to several counselling sessions for free. So idk see what your work can offer you before booking/getting referrals for anything?

I want to get a bicycle. I will mostly be riding <40min at a time just to get to the gym when my partner has the car, and mostly not on roads (bike paths).

I don't want to pay a lot of money, but I don't want a hunk of s**t. Any recommendations?
For your price point listed later under $300 check marketplace etc.

If its just a beater for the getting about fixies are low maintenance and effective provided you dont have any hills etc.

Fair fair.

Work would be the last people I'd flag my questions about this on :D

And no, not because any matters are particularly work related or embarrassing, I just wouldn't

Appreciate that, thank you. I was initially under the impression that to get those 10 sessions your situation had to be somewhat dire

I looked it up just for "fun" last term and its pretty good. You can have a look at most of the counsellors, there's photos/profiles, options whether you want consultations over the phone, or zoom or in person. It's a really good setup imo and looks easy enough to book.

/i didnt actually book anything tho.

Some official info on the Mental Health Care Treatment Plan that gets you those 10 sessions (if you haven't found it before).

It's not restricted to only those who are thinking about self-harm - the GP just needs to diagnose a mental health condition such as depression or anxiety

Have you got a doctor's referral? I think it's cheaper if you have a referral.

If you have private health that may also cover it.

Pretty hard to find a psych who bulk bills though

Still got to expect to be out of pocket a fair chunk

Which is interesting isn't it?
I'm interested to find someone to talk out some things, but there are quite obviously many people who are in a decent bit of need with this sorta stuff that they might find it challenging to get sorted

How long is too long to wait for a proposal?

I just read a comment online with a lot of likes saying if the bloke hasn't done it within 3 years, break it off. My partner waited almost 6!

i proposed after about 5 years. then we waited another 5 years for The Big Day. it was the longer engagement that wife did not like rather than waiting to be asked. not to the point of wanting to break up, more grumbling about planning that i couldn't be arsed to do. it sounds like i wasn't enthusiastic, but i did most of the planning contrary to how most wedding planning goes.
it's tricky, you can chat about it and gauge how eager someone is to do the thing but it kills some of the surprise.

I proposed to my wife after 3 months!

Should I be annoyed that I didn't get a Christmas bonus?
Got one the last two years but most recent nothing.
It's a bonus, not an entitlement. Did everyone miss out?

Mind you, the boss was walking around the office all happy with a bunch of bonus envelopes just before Christmas before being reminded not to flash them about because they were only for the staff and not the labour hire plebs (some of whom have been here 3 years). That raised a small frisson of annoyance.

Subsidised sessions through a Mental Healthcare Plan referred by a GP will only leave you out of pocket around $80.

Nah, I did it for work related stress and there was no issue. GPs don't get any penalty for giving them away, so usually they're more than happy to assist you to get some subsidised help.

I just went to the doc the other week and did the mental health plan test and passed with flying colours 😬😬😬, I’m not in a dire situation ATM but do have severe anxiety and my score was sufficient enough to get a referral. Still waiting for that phone call though.

Mine waited 6 I think as well. She was getting a little impatient but I said we could do it first then wait a few years for a house or the other way around, house won

You could get your cousin to kidnap your boss and put a big red bow on him and bring him to your house to berate him.
