What does it do for you Gough? The weed that is. The few times I've had it I mostly get paranoid that I'm going to OD and panic, which is ridiculous.
Sounds like you need a cone to stop you from panicking.

I wonder as a society if we are actually getting smarter, getting dumber, or just remaining the same.

I think purely by the fact that we are constantly innovating and building upon learnt knowledge, then by that we are getting smarter

But then you see how easy it is to gather information, without using reason, logic, or problem solving skills, and how much of the digital world is being run by corporatism and manipulative marketing, feels like the other spectrum are being brainwashed into dummies.

I think maybe in the future there'll be a huge gap between smart people and dumb people, moreso than before.

Depends how you quantify 'smart' and 'dumb'
If I were to create a category of intelligence, I'd probably call it "awareness"

Meaning, having the intellect to not only have compassion and empathy, but to consider possible implications and scenarios. The intellect to imagine progress and the ability to achieve it. Having the intelligence to be able to have free will, without the effect of external forces.

haha I feel like this is related to that woman who got arrested for assault by pushing that cop at the races. *

*it's probably not related.

Nah, haven't heard of this lol

Tbh this was spawned by some 18 year old instagram celebrity revealing that all of her instagram photos took hundreds of shots to perfect, drastic measures of not eating, and non-disclosed paid promotion.

And I was thinking just how ridiculous it is that 18 year olds can be instagram celebrities, that 750k will follow a girl posting pictures of herself in a bikini, that she can get paid for it, and that people don't even realise how doctored it all is.

That social media and the digital age is an almost unstoppable force that will overwhelm society in the future once the 20 year olds will replace the now 50 year olds, and how scary it is that so much subliminal marketing and brainwashing occurs without any awareness whatsoever. I think that's why I now place such an importance on having awareness, now moreso than ever.

Like subliminal marketing and brainwashing hasn't existed since forever
Not at the constant capacity we have now, which will only become more and more as time goes on.

Really? How do you think? I'd say since TV became the norm in every western household was when it would have reached its peak. Actually, now, people are able to make a more informed decision than ever with the advent of the internet. It has provided the ability for the largest base of knowledge man has ever compiled to be accessed at the press of a key.

Social media has also provided an outlet for people to share their experiences which may shed more light to a story than one source of information previously, ala the local paper or the big television broadcasters.

All the examples you gave are examples where an opinion of one person informs or influences the opinion of another.

Rather than being able to sit and contemplate issues of your own volition, with your own reasoning and your own opinion, we become influenced and become too accustomed to having our opinion being made for us.

Do you know how difficult it is, to find the necessary material that requires an informed decision? You have to search far and wide for it, and in the meantime, the visual stimulation we experience a large majority of our internet time, are uninformed material at an attempt to persuade us for an ulterior agenda.

Also, because the internet is so accessible, the ability to find likeminded people becomes so much easier.

And what happens, is 99% of people, will watch, read or listen to whatever that only reaffirms our own biases and personal opinions.

So, rather than making an informed decision, we live life pretending that what we think is correct, without the proper facts, or the other side of the argument, purely because we have a bunch of other people we selectively choose that agrees with us and creates the illusion of an "informed decision".

um

Social media gives a platform for literally BILLIONS of people to share their story, rather than old media which publishes and airs what the corporation producing it wishes, and was limited geographically.

I mean sure, most people get their opinions from a select group of sources that they trust, but this has been the norm for the whole of civilisation. However, the amount of sources for information is more open than it ever has been in human history.

This is just plain false. To give an example we can both relate to, this is a website for likeminded individuals - we all like football. Yet how many opinions do you disagree with? A lot, I bet. We're disagreeing now.

Your original point was that we're more brainwashed than ever, when in reality we're only as brainwashed as the last generation was at best.

People are infinitely smarter now than in the past and we continue to become more intelligent. The only issue is we are becoming lazy thinkers. So while our overall intelligence is increasing, our ability to problem solve is diminishing.

You've pretty much described how religion works there, which I'm led to believe was around before the internet...

Does anyone own or have seen a Victa Lithium powered lawn mower in operation?

From website reviews looks like you need a second battery as the first takes 2 hours to recharge plus some time for it to cool down.

and the US dude with the thongs thinks the Ryobi is...

I'm looking at doing some study in the next year or so- just a subject "here and there" perhaps. Not going back to Uni full time **** that.

Have found some info from La Trobe- a course in Legal Studies or maybe Psychology.
Eg some subjects re. the Legal Studies:
- Police, Society and Democracy
- Anarchists and Terrorists
- Mind, madness and Society
- Slavery and Human Trafficking.

Just wanted to know if anyone has done these subjects, any advice etc?

PM me if more appropriate.

Anyone here shave or wax their crack?
Tips/experience?
Just go get it done professionally. You wouldn't be the first bloke to do it I reckon.
