I've always said that we should play Hearts on fire while our players take to the field at halftime to get them fired up. At our last home match they were playing an even more sad cover of Cindi Laupers "True Colors" at halftime and remember saying to my brother that "this music is going to depress our players" lol I wonder who decided to play that?

At the moment we are more like

Driving home from work I saw a geriatric fellow with a bright red custom numberplate of "NAFC01"

#sagreat
Haha
I've seen three in the last two weeks: NAFC01, NAFC05, and NAFC08. All bright red plates.

PAFC81 was one I saw around my hood back in the day.

Today, I saw an angry fella in a Magpies beanie going off at the cleaning lady and security guard in Parabanks because they wouldn't let him use the gents toilets, closed for cleaning.

"Lady, you're a piece of shit! Mate, you're a fat f@%kwit! Find somewhere else to piss and shit, people! F@%king campaigners!"

My wife bought me a Fitbit a month ago, only just stepped up to jogging after starting out with long trail hikes. Finished the 2.5km loop with a slight incline near my house on Sunday without stopping, I was so proud of myself. Now I'm slightly embarrassed.

I'm so unfit. The natural athleticism and high metabolism of my youth was the biggest of false economies.

Don't be embarrassed! I'm about 3 weeks ahead of you. That's all.

My running also started with getting a fitbit. My social indoor cricket side folded a few months back and for the first time in 25 years I wasn't playing a sport. I'd also gotten to about 10kgs overweight.

The fitbit was a huge eye opener as to how little I was moving around.

I went away to the Essendon game having had the fitbit for about 3 days, and it had dawned on me that without at least walking the dog, I couldn't get near the 10,000 steps target. I have a Facebook chat with a couple of friends I went away with where we discuss step totals, what we've run that day etc. It definitely helps feeling like I have to be accountable to someone.

It seemed like a good time to run when I could to get steps up, and my competitiveness means that I've kept it up. I started from very little fitness base. I've got a good 5km track around my house, dead flat. I don't think I'd go too well with an incline. I finished the first time I tried which was a pleasant surprise, but it was glacially slow.

After about 10 5km runs in 14 days or something, I tried 2 laps, which I finished in about 1 hour 2 minutes, and after a day off managed 3 laps today! 14.72km in 1.31.29, which I'm super proud of. I'd never run further than 5km before, and 3 weeks ago the concept of running 10km would have been laughable.

My 10,000 daily steps streak is at 17 days. I have walked around the house for 20 minutes after 11pm to get there a few times. I've dropped a few kilos as well.

I've had a fitbit for over a year (actually I'm on my 3rd - first one was lost/stolen overseas, second one was faulty) and have never felt the urge to go running with it.

I think that these are a great idea. Especially for someone who can barely stand let alone walk like myself...putting on weight has become an evil hobby of mine since I gave up smoking a few years back. I bought a pedometer about 6 or 7 years ago as an incentive to keep walking around, but when I found out it was as useful as a tin of dried paint I turfed it. Bettering your step amounts each day is a simple but effective tool to losing weight. 10,000 steps a day is an impossible target for me, but trying isn't
