I made the mistake of saying 'up to Canberra' to Finny once. By the end of the exchange I felt like one of those degenerate gamblers who leaves the establishment with a 3-day growth, turned out pockets and a grey-green pallor.

I am a latitude pedant. I get annoyed when people in Adelaide say " I'm going UP to Sydney". Adelaide is ACROSS from Sydney. Look at an atlas.

I've even heard people in Melbourne say "I'm heading DOWN to Adelaide".

Technicaly it is down and across. Adelaide is more in line with south Wollongong/Port Kembla. Sydneysiders never say they are travelling north to Perth but they in fact are.

Perth........ S 31° 57′ 8″ S

Technically Wollongong is Southern Suburbs of Sydney these days. The merger between St George and Illawarra more or less confirms this to me

The Sydney basin ends at the Shire but yes the St George Illawarra Dragons blurrs the line for some. Although those from the Gong still bag Sydney.

Actually further south the Dapto dog track is more in line with Adelaide's latitude @ S 34° 29′ 30″

Type in -34.92 138.6 into google maps and you get government house on North Terrrace
Type in -34.92 150.604 and you get the Princess Highway about 1km south of South Nowra,
which is a good 50km south of Wollongong.

A mate of mine (Crows fan, top bloke though) posted about the New Era caps coming in and I posted the link to ours and how I like how they differ to the others who just have the club logo. Then someone commented with:

"Those caps look so cool! Don't rate the port one, it would look better inverted and with the logo not PA. Looks like a knockoff LA cap that they got wrong from Bali of something. Too bad there isn't one for the crows."

Melbourne is more east of Adelaide than it is south, therefore it should be "going across to Melbourne" or "going over to Melbourne".

Mind you I've also heard people say that they're going down to Brisbane from Melbourne...
