If there's one thing lamer than tennis, it's tennis crowds.

"Oh, the ballboy caught the ball on the full. I shall cheer loudly!"

"Oh, Murray served the ball and it got stuck in the net! I shall laugh uproarously!"

"Oh dear god! Novak Djokovic just flicked a rogue moth to the back of the court with his raquet! My sides are literally splitting!!!"

Spot on here, dear god its terrible. Also some players seem to think they are comedians and use post game press conferences to try out new material - Tomic I am pointing the finger at you. Just stick to tennis and leave the funny stuff to Jim Courier. Make dry reaching sounds now......

Viva La Nina - 2013.

Been watching the Qld weather since mid last week when I saw on the Weather Channel that parts of the Gulf of Carpentaria towns were hit with 700mm in a week. Since then have been noticing how many towns/places have been receiving between 200mm and 400mm of rain in a 24 to 36 hour period. Over a month's rainfall in a day!! Adelide's average rainfall is approx 550mm. You can see how many places have had 400mm+ in the last week at

WEEKLY RAINFALL BULLETIN
Bureau of Meteorology - Queensland Regional Office
Rainfall for the 7 days to 9am Sunday, 27 January 2013
We have received well over 300mm in a day more than once up here. Whilst it is measured over a 24 Hr period, most of the rain usually falls in a smaller timeframe.
Tropical cyclone Thelma in 1998 was one where we had massive amounts of rain (over 400mm) but IIRC as the rain was spread over a two day "recording period" (not 9am to 9am the next day) it didn't register as a record.

There was actually a very notable and very public change of direction at that radio station not too long after it went national. While it was never "my" station of choice i'd listen to it from time to time. They sacked Mark Dodshon, who's Australian Music Show had been a mainstay of JJJ for years. Also out the door went the much respected Tracee Hutchison among other long standing hosts and programs. The station very much went through an entire re-boot that many old time listeners would say would say was for the worse, but i'm sure station management felt vindicated given the stations soaring popularity nationwide.

I think your right. I have seen this pattern across business, music and sport.

There seems to be a real sweet spot from the transition from amateur to professional where you get the best of both worlds. There real substance, ability and quality mixed with a certain edge, creativity, naivety (in a positive sense) and a sense of adventure.

This sweet spot only last a relatively short period before the "bosses" have to take control because it becomes to big and too successful to not manage but by doing so limit the "creative" input. The period can be, in many circumstances be littered with very identifiable names:

JJJ - early 90s
Boxing - late 60s and early 70s - ali, liston, frazier, foreman
Afl - early 80s through to the early 00s
UFC - the last 5 years
Apple - the Steve Jobs era(s)
Hollywood - late 60s up to but not including Jaws
Pop music - early 60s to early 70s

y/n? bdc doesn't belong on a logo?

Big day out was awesome I had a great day. Saw some sick acts and managed to stay out of the way of all the dickhead groups *cough*Robinson*cough*...

I would love to see Port Melbourne get there chance to have representation in the AFL. They were sure things to get into the VFL in the early days but the Saints were chosen over them despite Port having a superior on-field football record. Unfortunately. Port Melbourne's crowd was a little too Port Adelaide for the VFLs taste.

I wonder if a merger of clubs could benefit both clubs:

Name: Port Football Club
AFL Benefits:
1) a home and away crowd
2) larger membership base potential
3) greater relevance for sponsors seeking national exposure

It may or may not work, but I would be keen to see the business model being fleshed out.

I saw Mitch Robinson down at Cott beach last year. No way would I'd be picking a fight with him, he looks like a psycho/UFC fighter.

Exactly the sort of character you avoid at music festivals.

Rondo does his ACL. My fantasy team is screwed !

Yeah, that sucks. He seems like a bit of a tool, but I always hate seeing players get injured. Would much rather him be a tool on the court.

Best logos are simple. Tottenhams **** and the old Fitzroy and Carlton style lettering are still my favorites.

The one I made was hardly busy or complicated - the BDC design (which is uniquely Port Adelaide) surrounded by our name and 1870, with a couple of flags chucked on top a là our 1918 emblem to represent the unification of Magpies and Power isn't too busy tbh, and it pays great homage to our heritage. Besides, it wouldn't necessarily be the logo we market ourselves with, it'd be a crest of sorts to pride ourselves on. Another more "kid-friendly" one could be used for merch and shit (such as the PA from the New Era caps). Geelong have done something similar.

Crest that is on their jumper that they take pride from.

Official logo for kids and merch etc

North did a similar thing when they laid the pavers outside their new Arden Street facility, whereas we stamped ours with the shitty original Port Power logo which just looks laughable now.

Tbh I think that cats design is poo along with most of the AFL logos except Carltons really... And actually GWS did a far better job than most... I was so happy when Spurs got rid of the shield design and went back to basics. So many clubs could do so well from this. I know a lot of people would hate it... But why not use the PA from the new era caps as our logo. Its simple clean and we could make it our own. I think we missed a beat when we brought in the Back In Black, we really should have done a new logo too. Plus we could use it to help further the one club with it being usable by both Power and Magpies.

Is wind caused from trees waving back and forth?

Good call. The PA on new era caps looks gorgeous.

It really would be the ultimate One Club logo. It should be done.
