Watching 2002 film Australian Rules on NITV - SBS4 . Great little film about bush footy and black and white relationships in a coastal town. Prospect Bay just won it's first flag in 38 years by a point but the white guys wouldn't give the blackfella the BOG medal. The main character is Gary 'Blacky' Black - but he's the sensetive white kid who likes the blackfellas. Last half hour looks like it's going to be a bit eerie.

In the training sessions there were a few woolen long sleeves Magpies jumpers. But the town's official jumper was the collingwood one.

In Prospect Bay, a remote outpost on the South Australian coast, two communities, the Goonyas (whites) and the Nungas (blacks), come together on the one field they have in common, the football field. But the underlying racism and class warfare threatens to make the team's greatest victories irrelevant. This holds particularly true for Blacky, a white teen who is more interested in books than sport, and his best friend, Dumby, the Aboriginal star of the team.

Early yesterday morning I was doing some bleary-eyed flicking through the sports channels and stumbled on the FA Cup final. I've never been big on soccer but it was a major final so I watched it anyway and was taken aback by a few things. 1) the sheer passion of the crowd especially the Wigan fans after the win, it was amazing. 2) how entertained I actually was despite it taking 93 minutes for a goal.

So I've decided I'm going to get into the EPL starting next season (inb4 soccerfaglol) and I need a team to support. I'm just indie enough that I didn't want to support one of the big 4/5 but I want a team that has good history, is fairly safe from relegation and may have a sneaky chance of success. So, after extensive research I've narrowed it down to either Tottenham Hotspur or Everton but I can't decide from there.

Are there any Spurs/Everton fans who want to ultimately convince me? If not I'll flip a coin :)

Everton. Can't f**kin' stand Spurs.
BTW if ya wanna start following a real club ya need to look further down the leagues. ;)
Watching Everton vs West Ham now, the dude with the phat fro is definitely helping Everton's case.
I also want a team I can watch fairly regularly on Foxtel so lower leagues are out of the question unfortunately.

Everton sound like they fit the bill for you dude, but they did just lose their manager of a decade to Manchester United, and he was often credited with keeping them as good as they were for so long.

Your other options are Newcastle or Aston Villa, both are pretty big clubs and although both have been in relegation bother this season, they're fairly unlikely to go down.

Plus Villa are the greatest club in the world etc etc

Don't listen to anything Eddie Dingle says. Nothing wrong with a red hot top 4 club though.

I don't think you should force yourself. Let your passion for a side grow as you watch the EPL. Just don't sport stoke, so ****ing boring.

Yep, I think I'm leaning toward Everton at this stage. I did consider Newcastle actually, their table position puts me off though, I think they can still drop below Wigan and be relegated?

That could take a long time, I think I might give one of these teams a trial run and if another team appeals itself to me along the way so be it :)

DonDynamite if you decide to support Spuz I'll do to you what Harry O'Brien is doing to Porplyzia just to the right of where you are now reading.

I would even prefer you to support the rag filth over that scum.

Cardiff City, they're new to the leasgue, you're new to the league, and the club is absolutely barmy and non pommie. Perfect.

Failing that then Everton as Spurs fans are like Richmond fans.

I'm the same. I want to get into it but I'm not keen to jump on a Man U or city or arsenal bandwagon. I have a soft spot for Leeds. They still stinking it up in the npower? I remember when they used to be one of those "big" teams. What happened there?

They spent more money than they had.

You want to support Newcastle, wearers of the famous black and white the Magpies and despite a strong history, perennial under-achievers of the old First Division now EPL. One year in Europe, the next year fighting off relegation with a game to go. An unloved manager and owner. Dressing room bust ups, players coming and going through the revolving door. A fanatically almost destructively parochial fan base. A bigger soap opera at the Toon's biggest sporting club than Geordie Shore. tribey will back me up.

Think Winterfell. ;)

Newcastle for you too, see above.

Everton will probably lose the guy with the 'phat fro', so you might be disappointed if you make the call because of him.
Spurs are not a terrible choice, just be prepared for many years of suffering and 'almost nearlies'. I have a mate who is Spurs, and he is always left disappointed in some way.
