I remember the good old days when 220 was the target that teams strived for in 50 over games.

I'd imagine the decks were not as friendly as batting on Port road with a tennis ball back then either

Different mind set as well. Players still played far more traditionally, got themselves in and kept the ball on the carpet as much as possible. The Sri Lankans started the trend of going hard in the first 15 overs in the late 90's, then with the advent of 20/20 the go hard, hit the ball much much more in the air and also smaller grounds in Aus/bigger bats have all contributed to the much bigger scores.

I've read about 3 posts now from that gillo bloke on the main board, where I've thought it was posted by Ford.
It bloody confusing. It's like their split personality FF. Our intelligent one, then the one that is like a facebook poster.

I wish I had foxtel so I could watch this. NZ went from 5/97 after 20 overs to 5/360 after 50 in an ODI thanks to Ronchi's 170* (99) and Elliot's 104* (96).

Would be good if we had an Australian keeper batsman like Ronchi to fill in Haddin's shoes...
At the risk of sounding like I'm boasting, I watched the last 11 overs live. In that time the Kiwis scored about 140 runs. Ronchi was awesome: Australia plays NZ over there in a World Cup game, and I'm sure Luke Ronchi (the former WA keeper) would love nothing more than to do to the Aussies what he did to Sri Lanka today.

Not sure i'd say good old days, but we can thank Romesh Kaluwitharana & Aravinda De Silva for really changing how the one day game was played in the mid 90s.

Don't forget Jayasuriya. Best of the three IMO.

i remember the good day when Ronchi scored hit 11 sixes for his 105 runs in a game for WA, came off 51 balls and went from 50-100 in 11 balls. Pity he didn't stick around in he still averages 38 for Aus in ODI's....

Aravinda De Silva was technique wise the best batsman they've had IMO
Pity about that Sri Lankan opener in the 1975 World Cup, whose technique left a bit to be desired against Jeff Thomson. As a result the little bloke got hit in the nuts off successive deliveries. The concerned Aussie team gathered around him, in time for the little Sri Lankan to mutter with a tear in his eye, "I go now."

Looking into getting a new laptop, whaddya reckon :D
