Not kidding there, because of what is now one of the biggest coincidences in history, long story short, failed assassination attempt lead to the group disbanding, princip went to a cafe for a sandwich and as it happened the lost motorcade containing ol ferdinand went past this cafe on the rest is history that spanned three quarters of the 20th century.

first in this article

It's even worse than the sheer co-incidence of incompetences that led to the assassination... there was a post WW1 cliche that the Balkans were "the powder keg of Europe", a gross over simplification implying that a war would have happened anyway.

IMO had that assassination not happened by that moment in time, a World War looks a much less likely outcome, for a bunch of tl;dr reasons, and apart from avoiding countless millions of deaths that followed for 80 years up to including the dissolution of the former Yugoslavia, after somewhat less than the years it took in factual history you probably get to having, oh, a very cosmopolitan, somewhat bureaucratic, relatively German dominated European economic community.

It was going to happen anyway, a minor part.

Killing Hitler would possibly have meant a Stalinist Europe and a Japan controlled Asia too.

heh. not so fast. totally disagree on the WW1 counterfactual.

also: kill Hitler and the A-bomb most likely gets invented in a late 1940s Weimar-ish (rather than Nazi) Germany. Heisenberg probably talks Neils Bohr into joining the project instead of sitting it out.

Stalin had his big counterfactual moment in 1920. He was first hand when the new Russian army was beaten off by Poland, which hadn't even existed a year before, which stopped him getting direct lines of support to Rosa Luxemburg, the Munich Soviet, the Kiel naval yard or any of the Red spotfires across Germany, which were all crushed in turn. He then turned his evil eye towards internal revolution and internal 'enemies' rather than continue Lenin & Trotsky's vision of exporting revolution.

WW1 had many factors as a cause, Princips actions were merely the spark, there was a nice long gap afterwards that proves how small a factor it was. Indeed, without the blank cheque that the Germans were so eager to provide Austria would have done very little. This is generally accepted in historical academia.

Whatever you say about Hitler, he and the fascists did help stop the spread of communism for a time. It is likely that without WW2 it would have caught on successfully in Europe (the only place where it was destined to succeed) and would have eventually led to a similar war. This would have been a Marxist and not Leninist/Stalinist type, but Russia would inevitably have had a great deal of influence over it. This stuff is total speculation of course like all alt history. You can pick any number of turning points and potential turning points depending on your political leanings.

I have only owned one guitar in my life - an Epiphone Les Paul, the very guitar seen in this clip! I lost patience trying to learn it, sold it, and went back to my drums.

Mate, I'm about to buy an electric kit.... Never played drums in my life, but just something I want to do.

I find myself air drumming and kicking to the most poly-rhythmic beats... I love the odd time stuff.

Alas... Wylde Jnr 2.0 is due Sunday/Monday so it might be a little while.

If I had the money i'd buy an electric kit in a heartbeat. Some of them are utterly amazing. Drum kits unfortunately are just too noisy to play constantly in a built up suburban environment making an electronic kit a perfect alternative if all you wanna do is bang some skins or play along to songs. I keep looking at them on eBay nonetheless and there's some pretty decent ones that are reasonably priced.

I've never owned a brand new musical instrument in my life. The quality stuff is built to stand the test of time. My old Remo kit survived a riot at The Arthouse in Melbourne. That sort of shit just adds and builds character.

So, taking the GF (Swans supporter) to the Home of Football, Alberton, for lunch tomorrow, She is already cracking the 'does she need to know self defence', 'will she get car-jacked' etc gags.... so, to give her the full Alberton experience, anyone here a car-jacker? She is driving a black and white Renault!

Look what I just accidentally found while trying to Google something else:

June 2011: Disappointed if players walk - Troy Chaplin

"If a player is leaving because he thinks the club is in dire straits, that would be disappointing," Chaplin said. "Surely you would want to ride it out and go through the hard times because out the other end it's going to be just as good in the glory times as well".

lol what an absolute A-grade flog that man is

My dream guitars...

An Ibanez man myself. I picked up my old guitar for the 1st time in many years about 6 months, not long after Soundwave, and started playing some basic blues/rock licks. Went to the local music store and fell in love with an 2nd hand Ibanez with EMG pick ups. Looking for a practice amp now. Leaning towards a Blackstar combo. Not sure to go for the 30w or 60w. 30w is perfect for home use but not enough grunt to jam with others. The 60w you could jam with others but too much grunt for home. 1st world problems hey.

60w

More power when you need it.
