Can anyone honestly see 6 of the 8 SANFL clubs voting yes to allowing AFL reserves teams into the SANFL competition? There are 2 clubs already who won't be prepared to change their mind from a no vote no matter what happens (Centrals and the Bays).

I can't see it happening unless the SANFL clubs want a quick cash grab.

This decision is critical to the future success of the 2 AFL clubs in SA and as a result this vote should be taken away from the SANFL clubs who have their own vested interests.

The SANFL competition is at present one of the best leagues outside of the AFL. However the argument that reserves teams will compromise the integrity of the competition is simply "bullshit" and sadly short sighted. If SANFL kids do not play against AFL quality talent on AFL lists they will find players will go to interstate clubs where reserves teams are rife. Plus what's to stop Adelaide and Port Adelaide in the future stating to young Jimmy out at North Adelaide in u16s development we want you to go play in the TAC or VFL where other AFL players play. Playing AGAINST slow grown men simply wont cut it anymore.

Anyone have any reports on this?

Seems a really good return in the wet.

So you're saying that the clubs who will have the biggest impact in having the Crows/Port reserves sides in their competition should have no right to vote on this.

This is South Australia, not North Korea. The SANFL clubs - and SANFL clubs alone - have every right to vote this concept in or out. The Crows/Port have no right to tell another competition 'We're putting reserves sides in your league competition whether you like it or not'.

See this is where footy in SA is all wrong. The decision needs to be made by an independent umpire (SA Footy Commission). All of the SANFL clubs have too many vested interests. It will be laughable if the only reason the SANFL clubs vote YES is because they want the money.

Well of course they do - they're playing in the competition and don't want it compromised by having 2 sides in the comp that are more interested in player development than winning a premiership.

Are One Club still aiming for two flags?

So really unless The Bye is hungrier to win than the AFC reserves, it will be a gain.

Why wouldn't the Crows reserves side want to win the premiership?

Why couldn't they have both? Winning and development.

Basically what your implying is, the Crows would hypothetically move say a Lewis Johnson from CHF to CHB at 3/4 just to see how he goes if the scores are level. The Crows reserves players and coaches competitive spirit would allow that to happen.

Yes they would experiment abs have the ability to play players where they want but I think winning would be the number 1 focus because player don't develop skills over 1 game or 1 training session. So any patio so changes would have a long lasting tine frame.

Geelong are the benchmark at the moment and they try to get their reserves team playing to the exact same game plan and style as their AFL team, so that replacement players are ready to go.

No different to what Bassett has been preaching with Norwood. Has every team - league, reserves, 18's, 16's, development squads - working to the exact same pattern and style of play. So that players can move up and down through the grades easily without having to start from scratch and get their head around a new structure. Same concept.

I don't see how this compromises the competition in any meaningful way.

Do the SANFL clubs think that clubs who are currently out of the premiership race (which is half of them) are compromising the competition because they will be worrying more about building a team for a future assault and development?

Which Centrals have been doing for many years before Bassett instilled this at Norwood.

How do the SANFL clubs cope with all these compromised competitions, worrying more about developing league players than winning games? I'm surprised they haven't shut the 16's, 18's and reserves down

Wright with 9 clearances.

Any chance we might look at Nathan Gordon (ex Sydney) playing CHF for the roosters and seems to have taken over Lewis Johnston's position. Kicked 5 from 13 marks, which against West Adelaide's defence is pretty good. Worth a look next year?

Have the crows said to only play crouch for a certain amount of time again? I havent noticed him get a stat for a while
As a Westies fan.. no. He's just a front runner. Seen it a lot now at Westies games. Take him back into the league side, we're better without him.

Wright was good today. Disposal a little off at times (got smothered from a mark and missed a couple of short passes) but his clearance work was excellent and he lifted when the game was on the line. If Sando makes more than the bare minimum changes this week then he should come back in. 15 kicks, 10 handballs, 9 clearances, 3 tackles.

Crouch was okay, tidy disposals but didn't really influence the game all that much. Equal most possessions for West with 20 (9 kicks, 11 handballs) and 4 clearances. Regardless, he should definitely be in the Crows team next week.

He's a 19 YO kid......certainly a long history in the game to support your theory

Based on side selection policies as they appear AP .....Couch won't get a call up until he dominates ....particularly with Wright making a stronger case for a recall

As much as i desperately want Crouch in the side,i applaud the fact ALL PLAYERS are being made to earn their spot
