Wow 56% of our total draft picks played less than 20 games ….. that's frightening.
It is not uncommon for players to not make the grade, its just that the better clubs seem to make less of those mistakes.
It is why we have to keep nailing the first & second round picks as that is where the cream of players normally are found.
A wipe-out there means that the other clubs move further away from us whilst we keep treading water.
Surely this would highlight to the club a systemic failure on both:
a) The identification of talent.
b) The development of players.
It is not uncommon for players to not make the grade, its just that the better clubs seem to make less of those mistakes.

I think if the more successful clubs thought they could develop those that failed at Carlton, there would still be plenty of them running around in the AFL. The fact so many are running around in local comps at a time when they should be in the peak years of their career suggests our talent spotting was very ordinary.Surely not every one of those players were below standard, how many would have played 100+ games if drafted by another team?
