Our Grand Final? I think you'll find the eagles public at large considers the derby Freo's Grand Final.

Edited for accuracy.

And that's just because they're idiots desperately trying to cling to any flimsy excuse for constantly losing to us. Whatever helps you sleep at night.

bwahahaha..... that's the bit I like. I grew up in a rugby family (granted it was union - real rugby - and not league)... so I know the significance of this comment. :D

Nice one Kapow!!! :D :D

Say hi to your mum for me. :thumbsu: Is she going down to carrara with you this w/e? Can you convince her to wear a purple scarf at least? ;)

Yes she will be going to the game as well on the weekend. We'll be on the wing and I'll be in everything purple known to man (including jesters hat, purple afro and possibly purple boxers over my pants) and she'll be with a purple scarf and/or beanie pretending not to know me :D

It's bizarre. All the slime fans I know who used to get into a bit of banter, all I hear all week now is how they don't care about it and they are saving themselves for finals etc etc.
So how are they supposed to make the finals without collecting 4 points each week regardless of the opposition? If you they can't beat us because we get ourselves up for it how are they going to beat a finals opponent who will presumably be pretty motivated to win too.
It makes no sense whatever way you look at it.
I mean can you honestly see woosh and suma sitting there going, "right we'll drop one this week because Freo will be trying so hard but we'll get the four points next week"? There are no easy games of AFL and every team tries to win every one. Period.

The theory goes that it is worth more than 4 points to us, and therefore we play with greater effort than an average H&A game should require.

But I've seen us put in some shocking derbies these past few years and still won. Obviously we just match up better to the Eagles than we do other teams. Probably to do with them playing Subi every second week, like us, and therefore having similar playing styles.

Similar to how we always seemingly did well against Grant Thomas's Saints, and how we've generally broken even with Mark Williams's Port teams, despite both sides being better than us over the past decade or so.

Meanwhile, we've always struggled against Essendon away, and never won in Brisbane.

I thought we played much better against Sydney, by far.

It's pretty funny when eagles supporters act as if them 'not trying as hard' as their opponents is something to be proud of.

A professional sporting team who thinks they're too cool to try to win games? Yeah that sounds really plausible.

Yeah but one the mail philosophical planks of Worsfold's coaching is that you should give the same effort every week, prepare the best you can, play the best you can as hard as you can every week. regardless of milestones or your opponent or where the game is played. He says it practically every week.
Ergo their best isn't good enough to beat our best.

Our Grand Final? I think you'll find the Western Australian public at large considers the derby Freo's Grand Final.
Please provide evidence of such. Do you have the statisical data to support this consideration claim?

Perfect example of when someone/media repeat some made up fact enough times some people will beleive it to be fact.... and in turn repeat it ad nausem like it some truth....

Good post. Excellent points :thumbsu:

exactly...
too cool to win :p

They gotta be proud of something... after all they are just a corporation representing a 'west coast' where ever that is on marked on the map ??

Lets not forget Egirls main goal for this season was to try an win EVERY home game to help them try an make hahahahaha finals this year.
So even if it wasnt a derby they were sposed to be trying extra hard in this game as winning home games was their main goal.

I remember copping so much from eagles fans when we struggled to win derbies an they would love telling us how many of the derbies they have won compared to us.
Now that we own them b*****s they try an tell us they dont care anymore.
Or freo only get up for derbies your sposed to do that every week not just for 2 games a year.
So doesnt that mean egirls are sposed to get up for this game as they are sposed to do it every week.

Keep lookin for excuses though

It is still true that West Coast had won a premership by now and that they had made the finals more than once in there first 15 years. I think until Fremantle address the problem why they can play so well against the eagles and not the other teams then you will consider to struggle. In this Case both sides should be looking at themselves as neither look like making the finals again this year. It is true you beat a side that many think will finish in the bottom three to four this year but they did kick 20 points and not many sides will give you that advantage. I say to both coaches and sides for the good of football in this state try getting your act together sooner rather than later .

We towelled you for a half, failed to kick straight and then you towelled us for a half whilst kicking straight.

Good win, and a crap loss all rolled into one. I don't think it can be said that either team didn't try.

The real battle will be to see who rebuilds the fastest this time. Let's have a few derby finals and then we can play for real bragging rights.
