I have my first exam on thursday, last week was swotvac but I did absolutely no study what so ever. Figured I would hit the books hard this weekend/next few days. Unfortunately for me, I found out the program that was clashing with f1 2010 (which I downloaded a few weeks ago) and got it working friday night.
Suffice to say this weekend has had little/no (read no) study.

You'd think after four years you would realise it's just easier to bite the bullet and actually do it early.

I never studied for exams or anything for that matter. What is in my head is in my head and that's it.

Might I also add that I actually worked quite hard during classes so maybe that's why it wasn't too bad :o

I thought the 'swot' in 'swotvac' referred to the old English slang term of swotting up for exams.

EDIT:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swotvac

The term swotvac derives from the Scottish word swot (or less commonly swat) originally meaning to sweat, which found use as a slang word describing a student paying careful attention to his work. Swot as a verb suggests acting like a swot, studying for one's exams. Vac is generally considered to be a shortened form of vacation, indicating the period free of classes. The use of the uncommon and outmoded word 'swot' has led to the backronym Study Without Teaching Vacation. There are many other different backronyms that can be derived.

TV1 had a Seinfeld marathon, showing every episode in chronological order, in the four days before my Year 12 French exam. Killed my chances of a great rather than good score.

When I was at Uni our pool table used to get pretty heavy use in June and October/November.

This.

Works extremely well in high school in all subjects except calculus.

Pretty useless for university level maths though.

Or you could always install LeechBlock (for Firefox) or StayFocused (for Chrome). Both are extensions that will block websites that you list for certain time periods each day. (And before anyone asks, I'm not aware of anything similar for Safari)

Probably less drastic/time consuming for all than arranging a temp suspension of an account (which still doesnt stop lurking even if it can stop posting)

installed, am now posting from the private browsing option in the browser

Good thread. Should hit 500 replies by the end of November, I reckon.

As for me, I have gotten worse at this the longer I have been at uni.

This semester, though, I turned procrastination into a positive by allowing mself to exercise (weights/running) if I was going to bludge. It used to be that I wouldn't allow myself to exercise during heavy study periods because it seemed like such a waste of time... then I'd waste 2 hours on bigfooty anyway. At least this way, something good comes of it. Between that and doing Ocsober the last few weeks, I don't think I've ever had a healthier 5-week period.

:thumbsu:

Boy oh boy am I going to hit the scotch on Friday. Mmm-mmm.

^ I did the exercise procrastination route at the end of last year as well, it's a good one.

I also have a habit of getting addicted to boring computer card games - last time it was Spider Solitaire (got a record of 108 wins in a row on the medium setting - been too scared to play it ever since, for risk of losing my record). This time I have learnt and mastered the game of Hearts.

Yes, I am an incredibly sad person.
