This weeks team (3 changes)

Melbourne has made three changes to its side for Saturday’s clash with West Coast at Optus Oval.

Craig Ellis has been named ay centre half back and will play his first game for the Demons, since crossing from the Western Bulldogs at the end of last year.


Luke Williams and Daniel Ward have been named on the interchange bench after impressive form with Sandringham.

Ward’s progress since returning from hamstring tendonitis has been quicker than expected. Fifth in the best and fairest last year, he will be a welcome addition to the midfield, which will be without Travis Johnstone, who was ruled out earlier in the week with a strained adductor muscle.

After a quiet first three weeks, forward Russell Robertson has been dropped, as has defender Troy Broadbridge, who has had little game time and will appreciate a full run with the Zebras.

Back-up ruckman Darren Jolly, touted as a possible inclusion during the week, has been named as an emergency, along with Ross Funcke and Michael Clark.

The Eagles have made one change, dropping David Haynes for Ashley McIntosh.

With Jolly listed as an emergency (him not being in the team already is a disgrace as far as I'm concerned) he couldn't come in late for say.. Williams.

Not an overly bad selection, but there is NO WAY Jolly should be left out, White NEEDS help in the ruck. There is no point in running out number one ruckman into the ground so he has nothing left by round 10! If Jolly doesn't play Nicho must do some ruckwork to ease White's load. I can't actually believe he was left out.

F@CK!!! I can't believe they dropped him, for god's sake he has played 50 games in a row and his has 3 bad games and they drop him... Woey has had a bad year but you didn't see him being dropped, and lets not talk about Grgic! This is absolute bull****, it is totally unfair and honestly you have no idea how much this news will hurt him, it is totally uncalled for and I am spewing so don't anyone tell me he deserved to be dropped coz he doesn't!!!!
Nothing more to say but this has completely ruined my day and not only do I have to leave the stupid game early I also don't have Robbo to watch out for. Man this totally sucks!!

Oh and one more thing....... Clarky did just as well as Williams so why the hell is he in emergency and Williams is in??

That could very well be because Williams has more senior experiance, he played well in round 1, and has continued his good form, Clark is unproven.

nah... we watched them both play with sandy last week, and i'd say that clark played better then williams... i really think he deservs to play soon... hope he does!!

i reckon the line up isn't too bad... we'll see saturday!

You will chew my head off for this, but I am going to say it. That post above is a load of rubbish. I know you go with your heart Or and it's mainly a good thing, but this time it's clouded your judgement.

He deserved to be dropped. Barely 15 possies in 3 weeks is pathetic. The players coming in all deserve to be there, and Robbo can find form with Sandy. Woewodin played well against PA with close to 20 possies, 6 centre clearances and yeah, he get's benefit of the doubt. And Grgic got in and out of our side all the time too.

He won't be "hurt" by it, it will just fire him up to bounce back, which I hope happens. And if he has probs off the field, then that's his problem. If it affects his game, then he should not be there, regardless of how hard he tries. The likes of McKernan, Farmer, Crawford (dropped after brownlow at some stage??) have all been dropped for not playing well enough, and they are all better than Robbo. I guess I am just trying to help you see it from the other side, but it might be all in vain. I just can't see how he should be any different, whether he has 50 or 500 straight, it doesn't make a difference. 3 weeks of nothing, you get dropped. Hope you don't get pissed with me, I am just trying to show it from our point of view.

Plus, I predicted all those ins and outs expect for Williams. I had Jolly. I agree that not bringing him in is a mistake. but, we wil lsee if it backfires for us.

I'm a big Robbo fan myself but he really had to go. I don't doubt the effort & commitment of any of our players (especially Robbo). However Robbo's form's been the poorest of our senior players all season & I agree with him being dropped.

Seriously why is Jolly not in! White was a goner by 3 qtr time last week & he needs back up, as good as he is.

Why is Williams in? He always stars at Sandy but has done very little in the seniors. He hasn't improved much since his first senior game in 99. You all know I would've had 5 others in the seniors before him. Gee I hope he makes me look stupid & kicks 5 goals but I remain sceptical until he does something!

I have to admit i'm curious why you're letting White play basically a lone hand in the ruck- one of the reasons we beat the bulldogs last week was that Gardiner got well on top of Darcy, and the dogs couldn't do anything about it- If Gardiner beats White, you'll be in the ****e. (heh that rhymes)

White is a better ruckman than Darcy. He is also a better ruckman than Gardiner. He has beaten Rehn, Primus and Ottens/Stafford in the last three weeks, and only tired due to the conditions and the fact we played 3 games in 13 days.

We would like Jolly there, but White will easily hold his own.

yeah its true, woey actually had a really good 3rd quarter last week... and he's got an ok amount of touches each week, so for now, its ok - better get better though!

Another thread on this board, "Senior Macca out", mentions the fact that Jolly has come into the side for the injured Anthony McDonald.

So hopefully, the inclusion of Jolly will make ND realise that it is better for White to have some back-up and a bit of rest.

In other words, I'm hoping Jolly will make ND correct his folly. (Leave me alone, I'm tired.)
