Richmond vs Pies

I was very impressed by our guts and determination to come back after such a crap start and keep going and going and going. Lockyer was the BOG for me, swan was great, pendlebury keeps improving, richards improved in the ruck, loved neons goal, medhurst got involved by the end and rocca stood up. Burns looks like he could be here next year for sure. Still iffy about Licuria but i think 1 or 2 more games but he is close to being chopped...still he wasnt that terrible.

Rookies: Was thoroughly impressed by all 3, Dick will be great player, not sure what toovey will be but he was quite good and Cox did well.

What are your thoughts!??

The debutantes showed something , I'm not sold on Toovey but D*ck and Cox looked okay in different areas .
Heath Shaw was good , Rhyce gave run , Thomas was good and gave a lot of run , Rocca stood up as he needed to do and was very important as was Medhurst .
Through the midfield O'Bree , Lockyer , Burns and Swannie gave us a lot of drive .

Pendlebury continues to improve but has a fair way to go still but he will be a very good player for us .

We gutsed it out in the first half but kept at it and ran over them in the second half . Very pleasing was how we came out with our intensity after halftime and really stuck our tackles .
Disturbing was our struggle to put together run across the ground or goals on the board in the first half .

my thaughts are the future is looking brighter at the pies, the younger players stood up and even though cox was a little quiet he still did some great stuff, but if fraiser dosnt pull her finger out and stop being so lazy, i will go to training and kick him in the goldsack arghhhh!!!

end rant lol

bye

Travis Cloke again provides an option around the half forward line, rarely drops the marks, but still fails to have a penetrating kick, and always seem to slide off the side of the boot. Trying to fill the role of Taz, but is a long way off, he needs to provide an option like Taz did up the wing and into the HBF. He really needs to work harder to push up the ground, especially when we have the ball deep in defence and we are puss footing around.

Toovey? Everybody was dark on him but compared to when we saw him in the NAB definitely streaks ahead.
For those that say IM NOT CONVINCED ON TOOVEY.....errr its his 1st AFL f*cking game and he showed up well.

how good are we when we get the ball out of the middle and to rocca:D need to try to do that more often

dick cox and toovey were all awesome, didn't some say toovey was a backman? awesome up foward (he kicks like me too)

im sad to say that richards wasn't that bad:)

Very, very impressed with the Pies tonight, went and watched with my gf and her bro and not much to say about the first half but you guys killed it in the second half and with the names still to come back anyone who had you guys as spooners should really evaluate how much they know about footy. I've never been impressed with Lockyer but tonight changed my opinion and Heath Shaw is a star!

Good game guys

Brave and exciting, under the pump when Clement pulled out and Wakes did his quad and Medhurst an ankle

Great comeback

But someone please tell me why Mick left Wakes at FF all night when he couldn't run???

would you have wakes stand still at FF or the backline, at least they have to play someone on him

mick knows what he is doing... im very happy with tonights effort...
i really cant wait to see a full four quarter effort..

BRAD D I CK- gee he looks classy... 8/10
TOOVEY- far better than a heap of posters havemade him out to be- i know its one game and still has a lot of work to do.. 6/10
COX- looked pretty steady/composed... 6/10

my rating is based one a first up performance.. nicholls would have got 2 based on last weeks performance.

I thought we played well in the second half. We were pretty ordinary in the first though. If we were playing a decent team, playing a good second half wouldn't have mattered as the game would have been over at the half.

Adding Johnson and Clement to that team is always a good thing for us to look forward too. Think we lacked experienced and guidance in the first half, these two will help here

Didak isn't any chance of coming up for next week is he? Would love to see him back for the ANZAC day clash, we really need him there I reckon.

I know it's early to think about, but what changes do you think will be made for the game against Port?

IN: Johnson, Clement and maybe Egan (depending on how he plays, but would have to be a big chance you'd think)
OUT: Wakelin, maybe Cox (who I think would be very unlucky, looked very composed, but probably due to the fact he didn't kick goals, he might be the most likely outta the newbies to go out?)... And, well there's no-one else really! Probably no need to bring Egs in either I guess, not when the guys in performed.

The first half had me pulling my hair out! Absolutely pathetic skills and extremely poor decision making had me looking for the car keys.

The second half was what I pay the bucks for! Tackling, chasing, harassing, forward line pressure, tucking the ball under the arm and running with it, hitting targets and most of all going long to the big men. If Collingwood play like this all the time it will be an exciting season.

What concerns me is even though we got away with the win our skills are still below par. An incident which sticks in my mind was a Dane Swan clanger where he had it on the wing and was clear with Pendles on the 50 about thirty metres in the clear. Not only did Swan miss the target but he missed it so bad it went straight to a Richmond player 30 metres away! This is only one incident but there were many in the first half which I think may get overlooked because of the win.

Something the pies seriously need to work on I think.

yeah the skills were pretty bad....but the upside is that i dont think they can get any worse and will only prove as the season wears on...remember its still early...im just glad we won

i am very happy with medhurst atm... his job is to kick a couple goals a match, however it was not so much his goals but his pressure in the forward line that i admired.

brad d1ck will replace chris egan in our lineup.

fraser, not to pleased with his last two hit outs. but i think he is playing with a few niggles.

but for ****s sake we butcher the ball.

i dont understand whats so hard about kicking long to rocca/fraser/toovey 30m out from goal. dont need to drill him put it in the hot spot so rocca can run onto it. a decoy/2nd option medhurst lead and leon davis crumming. how hard is that. im glad to see we have recruited some players who use the ball well at least.

on another note i have been saying it for a while and confirmed last week on mmm. i rekn we stick jimmy clement as a pinch hitter on a wing. imagine him delivering the ball to our forwards. he is quick enough and smart enough.

some people may be happy with the win but i will be happy when we play a full game like tat second half

Toovey is ok, he could become a really handy player that does a job each week. Still like others I'm not totally sold on him. Dick has fantastic skills, I don't think he is as quick as people make him out to be, certainly quicker than most but not explosive. Cox, I like a lot, with Wakes struggling put him at CHB, if we think he can play there and watch him develop. He reminds me a bit of a less athletic but more poised Brennan or even Jason Roe to a lesser extent.
