Time for a new coach?

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Craigy has gotten the Crows into the finals every year when critics expected them to keep slipping, they were touted as bottom 4 material this year and are sitting 4th at the moment, also happened in 2005.

How can worsfold not be in Choccos league? since he started coaching them they have not missed the finals (this year will probably be the first), and hes played in 2 grand finals just like Mark so I think they are in the same boat.

When was the last time Sydney did not make the finals 2002?2001?, 2 Grand Finals, great record and a coach that can think on game day. How many times has Chocco been out coached by Roos, the only guy that does it better is Craigy

Mark Thompson was unlucky to not be in a Grand Final in 2004 and 2005, yes in 2006 they had a down year but it doesnt stop the fact that geelong won the premiership last year and he has recruited alot of those big names and made them the players they are today.

Craig may have the best w/l record since 2003, however he has yet to do anything in the most important part of the season. Finals. I would rather loose 3more h&a games and have an impact in the finals!!!

Worsfold, Williams, Roos and Thompson are all on level pegging in terms of w/l record as well as all having a premiership and all except Thompson having made an additional grand final.

Now out of these for coaches, have a look at the personal they have had to work with. Worsfold and Roos both had dual Brownlow medallists with Thompson having a Brownlow medallist, and West Coast having Judd, Cousins, Kerr (Argued as the best three players during the 2years of WC domination), Geelong having Bartel Ablett Scarlett (Rated the best three players in the comp in their position), Sydney having Goodes (A dual Brownlow medallists) and Port developing a list not relying too much and the big name superstars.

Look at WC now with Judd and Cousins out, they are rabble. Port with Cornes and Wilbur out are still competative.

Therefor, Choco is the best coach going around at the moment, as he gets the best out of his players and puts them in pastures that havent even been explored before.

I don't think we should get rid of Choco - though I do think we need a board strong enough to rein him in again.

That said those spouting the whole 'who's better' lines are dribbling crap to some extent. By that rationale Sheedy would still be coaching Essendon and Pagan Carlton - and to take it to it's ultimate end, the PAFC would still be coached by Cahill.

There comes a time when coaches become 'stale' in their current environment or completing get passed by the game. Choco hasn't reached that point, but some yellow flags at least are waving. Choco needs some strong willed assistants who aren't ex-Port players or teammates of his, who are willing to tell him when he's wrong. The coaches box isn't a democracy, but it's not meant to be a dictatorship either.

I will give you 4-

1. Craig
2. Worsfold
3. Roos
4. Thompson

Craig? pfftt. Had two years where they had zero injuries for 90% of the year and fell over in the finals three years in a row. Not even close.

Worsfold has had just about the most talented young list ever assembled to work with. Roos and Thompson have worked hard to get their lists into premiership condition.

Id have Mark 3rd at the very least, if not 2nd ahead of Roos.

oh jesus, your a genius, thats why we lose games the coach lets sack him, and replace him with sheedy or maybe even one of the danhier's

I think that the majority have spoken.....NO it isn't time for a new coach, just more time for supporters to be Patience and support.

Ask yourself one question.

Which is the best coached team at the moment with the current players to win a Premiership in the future?

I can only see two teams at the moment who played each other in
Tassie, besides Geelong.

Have a look at the age of the majority of the side at the moment.........we will be a little inconsistent at times which whilst frustrating will happen and don't forget the side that played really good against us on Saturday is un-defeated.

Yep, it takes time for these players to gel & as you say young players form will be up & down like a yo-yo until they normally get at least 60+ afl games under their belts. Even then, they can still be inconsistent as let's face it their is another team out there who want to win as much as we do.

We'll happily take him off your hands.

If I had my choice of any coach in the AFL Choco would be second only to Lethal.

I think its dissapointing to be talking about our coach 8 football weeks out from making a grand final we should never have got near.

I think its more relevant to be discussing why we are losing so badly in the midfield given some of the players we have at our disposal to throw in their.

Yeah spot on... Chocco is the best thing to happen to your club IMO... Other clubs would love to have a man like him in charge, but, do you guys think he overcoaches a bit and should sometime just let the game go? Jack cahill style, keep it simple? Not a troll, as I rate Williams very highly but the wasting the last few minutes of each quarter, having no player up forward to kick to when Burgouyne is bursting through the centre, the changing to a defensive style of play when you get 4 up to me is over coaching....

Can't argue with any of that.

I dont have that mentality at all and if you bother to look back over the archives ive been one of his biggest criticisers on this board.

I agree whole heartedly about getting some non-Port assistants in - which we already have, but calling for him to be sacked now is just stupid.

I imagine you couldn't be bothered searching ... but if you did I reckon you'd find these sentiments expressed often enough.

Sorry Ford, dont come on the Port board much as you usually chase me away, but I will take that as a compliment from you

I reckon the search terms "playstation" and "gaelic" might get a few hits ... ;)
