I just don't think us people who are underweight and don't need to worry about when/what we eat and the fact we only have to excercise when we want could understand what it would be like to be overweight who live the same busy lives we do.

it wouldn't be easy, i don't think

Some people couldn't put on weight if their life depended on it but you still have to have a poor lifestyle to get fat.

Mostly yes but not necessarily. There can be hormonal imbalances or side effects from medication that can lead to obesity. Of course metabolic rates etc also have a genetic basis.

Anyway, whatever happened with the ballerina!?

sorry when did i say that they don't have a poor lifestyle

me and a bunch of mates went to thailand a few years ago

ate like shit
drank so much
no exercise
14 days

i lost a few kgs

one of my mates who is constantly watching his weight and going to the gym put on 7 kgs. He is now a healthy weight, but I've known him since he was 15 and he has always had the tendency to blow out. He is way fitter than me.

im just saying its easy for us skinny people who cant put on weight to say to people who are overweight "why don't you just stop eating". It would he hard!

I get hungry. I eat. No matter what time it is.

I don't want to exercise. I don't.

I want to drink 10 beers on a thursday night just cause. I do.

It has no consequence on my appearance.

He gets hungry? he has to think what he can eat, he has to spend time making something healthy.

He doesn't want to exercise ? he has too.

he wants 10 beers on a thursday? he cant

he has body image issues, constantly thinks about what others think about him and how he looks in clothes and struggles with girls (he got drunk AF one night and opened up to me. not one of my close mates, was awkward af next time i saw him)

i just reckon it would be really hard to lose weight and then keep weight off if your body had a tendency to be bigger.

Yep. You'll find this out too when you hit middle age and your metabolism slows down. It's no easy task to start watching what you eat/drink after not giving it a second thought for the first half of your life.

no doubt

and this bloke is a few years younger than me

got his 21st next weekend down in dromana

so his whole teenage years/early adulthood which is dominated by going out on friday/saturday eating shit on sunday he has the constant worry about his weight

then people like SG are there saying u y so fat for

just think it is unfair and lacks understanding.

Can personally vouch for this. After year 12 I was 65kg (and was always small). Then I started working 50 hours a week and commuting 4 hours a day and in 5 years, I now weigh 85kg.

Once you get into a daily grind, it's bloody hard to force yourself to exercise, when all you want to do is rest etc.

I'm with SG, want to stop being fat then stop being lazy it's not hard to figure out. I work harder than 90% of people I know yet still have time to go to the gym at 4:30 in the morning, start work at 6-6:30 then finish after 6:30 and go grab some shopping to cook that night.

Don't have time? Give me a spell and stop whinging*

*for what it's worth couldn't give a shit if you're fat as long as you aren't one of them people who constantly says they wish they weren't

This!

I used to be able to eat as much as I wanted and stay as skinny as a rake, but once I hit 17/18 I started putting on some kegs. It's really hard to break a habit of binge eating and grazing when suddenly there's consequences for doing it.

Fortunately I'm 6 foot 3 so I can carry a bit of weight and still look respectable, but I can see how it would be awful for manlets who had similar problems.

Like most stories here... i Can relate I'm in my late 20s and honestly could eat/drink whatever I wanted until I was about 23. I went from 78kg at age 21 to 95kg by 24. That's with no change in diet. But you really need to adjust your habits. I'm currently 28 and am 86kg. That's going running 3 Times a week with gym and the works. I also eat very conservatively. Point being depending on your body you NEED to adjust. Nothing worse than someone who talks about weight but won't work at it. Respect to anyone who makes a change its not easy.

Is this thread still about Tinder?

Anyways I had a ridiculous metabolism until I was about 21 or so. Lunches at uni, dinners if left to my own devices etc. were KFC, kebabs, bottles of Coke etc. If I ate like that now I'd spend all day lying on the couch exhausted and feeling horrible.

Once I finished uni and started a desk job I probably put on a kg or two, and now I'm 31 probably a kg or two on top of that. Hardly into the range of needing to wear moo-moos but if someone wants to do a skin fold test on me (please don't) they'll now be able to find something to pinch.

I don't want to be a fatty so I eat better and deliberately exercise more than I used to. Not that I didn't exercise when I was young (the opposite, played loads of sport, did nightfill which is fairly active when you're lifting crates of milk, cartons of Coke etc.) but you take a degree of fitness for granted when you're still playing school/organised sport etc.

I've taken more of an interest in cooking and health/nutrition which is good for me now and long term and probably something I wouldn't have done had I been able to just keep eating crap all the time without noticing any change.

I get that it's annoying that some people can eat burgers, drink 10 beers etc. and not put on weight but that isn't an excuse for people that can't to just do the same. Everyone is different. Some people can study for 5 minutes and ace an exam while others need to study for hours and hours just to pass. Some people can run 10km+ with no training while others can train and train and train and struggle.
