Roast Tom Boyd and Zaine Cordy suspended indefinitely & the truth about Tom Boyd

I'm curious as to how a trade would work given the size and length of his contract? I don't think trading him is going to be very straight forward. Another club would have to agree in part to committing to some of the contract. Bulldogs would likely be left footing some of the bill?

In stock trading its called cutting your loses, and its nearly always a good idea.

Whether we need to cut loses with Toyd, I have no idea but if we do, I hope we dont just hang on and hope to avoid egg on face.

It is interesting (putting it mildly) that sporting clubs or any club, venue, employer or otherwise can be criticised for keeping matters in house when such matters are either embarrassing, not in the public interest and / or there is no legal obligation warranting such disclosure.

This certainly reflects poorly on the society that we find currently ourselves in.

The other delicious irony is that air cloggers such as Barrett would not exist and have no relevance in society if indiscretions such as these did not occur on the odd occasion. Tom Boyd (has done) will do more in the next 15 years of his life than Barrett and your average person will do in their existence (e.g. all the various charitable and community servitude required of an AFL player).

I think Beveridge will continue to deal with matters in house and be even more stoic in front of the media because of the hatred and contempt justifiably shown towards Barrett.

Finally, if there was only an altercation several weeks ago I cannot see how an indefinite suspension is warranted by the club.

If you break it down the issues are as follows:
- alcohol
- not disclosed to media

Teammates have altercations all the time (on and off field). In these circumstances they are not suspended internally in any way.

That story doesn't add up - if it was just an accident when they were mucking around the club wouldn't (or shouldn't) react like this. Must of been more to it surely
I've seen this sort of post a few times and I think you're all adding two and two and getting 400.
The guys went out on the piss, were being reckless, Zaine ended up in hospital and they lied to the club about it. That pretty much explains the fines, suspension and the counseling is the same sort of corporate bullshit that gave us sensitivity training. Most likely it is counseling on responsible use of alcohol and not being reckless.
Club acted fine if a little heavy handed (most likely in an effort to stamp this behaviour out now) in my opinion, wish the media weren't such muck raking snipers and we could leave the two kids alone to serve out their punishment. They certainly responded well in the last vfl match.

If we end up trading Boyd it will be one of the dumbest things the club has ever done.

We have been crying out for a key position forward for years and we managed to get the highest rated one from a recent draft.

Boyd was contributing solidly before he got injured. He has now stuffed up and will pay the price.

I get that people are angry - I am too, but let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater.

So why the comments that he's best 22 and has a bright future at the club? Just to take the pressure off? Increase trade value?

He also started the season in the best 22

But the premise of Fronks post is that the coach thinks the kid cant play.

The fact that Bev felt the need to cut this bloke loose after a season only scares the **** out me. Not only because in the current football climate we need everything to go right to win a premiership but also that Bev has been right about nearly absolutely everything.

We just have to ask for a pay cut from him. Their would be personality clashes at every football club but Bev is right about this potentially handicapping our salary cap.

We might not lose much or anything but it could stop us gaining someone. Which is absolutely essential if we are to progress further.

Ok, the cat is out of the bag to some degree now, so I'm going to say what I didn't say at the end of last season.

The bottom line is this. Luke Beveridge is not a fan. Not a fan at all. Not a fan of his talent, not a fan of him as an individual and not a fan of what he does to our cap.

He lobbied so hard last year that he got the club to the point where it had very very serious discussions with Carlton about a trade. Sos was in. The Carlton administration pulled the pin.

I fully expect the club to re-visit trading him at the end of the season.
Whilst this may be true, I do question the fact that he's 'not a fan of his talent' (he's 2 years out of the TAC cup system where many experts rated him as the best prospect in 10 odd years) and 'not a fan of him as an individual' (at the end of last year he had just turned 20 years old, ie still a kid with plenty of time to mature). I would be personally surprised if Beveridge would feel so strongly about Boyd's talent and personality at this stage in his career that he would look for a trade so quickly.

The point re what he does to the salary cap, I can see that would be a source of frustration.

Agree. Don't buy it personally.

God he's a piece of shit. How come we were the first to bring it up then..?

Oh wait, Damo is the 'best newsbreaker in the business' even though 90% of his stories have been broken/covered before. Human filth, wish Bev polished him off at the Brownlow.
think you and I have different definitions of what it means to "polish him off" :p

Don't feel bad for us Damo!

Now you know we feel every time we see you cringingly genuflect to your betters in the media box.

Back to rummaging through bins with you.

He should stay with Beveridge for 12 to 24 months and be moulded into the player and person that Beveridge wants. He should also pay off a portion of Beveridge.s mortgage if not the whole amount.

Not taking a pot shot, just want to join in the discussion.

Not that i know much about Tom Boyd, but just as a general footy fan, he does seem to have a bit of an off putting personality...just that he seems very serious and arrogant sometimes...doesnt seem to be the type to joke around and be a nice guy. Could be wrong of course just my opinion. But to me those would be the kind of things Bevo wouldnt like about someones personality...them not being a team player.

The hype around Boyd in his draft year was huge as a once in a generation player, which really gets said way too often. Seems though that the trend of the game has changed since then and maybe Bevo's preferred style of play doesnt suit Boyd...we have heard Bevo say he needs to improve his agility and movement. Boyd dominated in the juniors in part due to his sheer size, which isnt enough anymore.
