does this mean Smith, Grant, West, Johnson and even Bob Murphy have had jokes of careers too then? ;)

So a flag means everything does it? Would have thought Scott West especially was defined by his courage and ball winning skills, but no flag means no good according to some ;)

ergo Lin Jong and Joel Hamling are better then Scott West because they have a premiership medal :drunk:
Might want to check your facts there.

Also, I doubt too many Doggies supporters really spite St.Kilda. It's all about winding up Plugger35 and JeffDunne, two of the biggest sore losers on this board.

Most of the Doggies board said they'd be happy to see St.Kilda competing again soon.

And yes there are idiots on both sides of the fence, can't we all just get along? Both our sides should do well :)

Sore losers?

You were playing Sydney (if you hadn't noticed).

Yeah he's right, I'm just taking the piss out of old mate. I'd prefer the Saints win a flag than another of the old guard.

^ Problem for Tom is the only other B&F in a Premiership year apart from EJ is the Bont - who was a couple of months younger than EJ when he took out the prize.
Off no pre-season too.

We're probably overlooking the unheralded efforts of Zaine Cordy too (Tom's best mate) - Boyd's uptick in form really started when Zaine started playing as a defensive forward and splitting the opposition tall defenders so Tom could actually compete one on one. We tend to run a pretty crowded forwardline at times to allow our smalls a chance to scrap goals. Having Zaine down there meant we get some clean ball in at times which has helped him immeasurably.

Hopefully Cloke does a similar thing next year - splits the tall defenders.

Essentially both clubs come from similar backgrounds and have had similar struggles. Most reasonable folk understand that and support each other's clubs in good and bad times. Hence the reason I have soft spots for teams such as the Saints and North and we all need to keep our clubs viable and a part of the competition.

Back on topic, ignoring the continuous sniping/jealousy from a small group of posters in this thread Ive always thought that Tom Boyd will be our version of Geelong's Tom Hawkings and so far he's done ok in his 2 years.

Our sides are great because we never ever give up. Strength through loyalty could just as well be your motto too :)

He went alright against the Eagles at Subiaco in an elimination final
Therefore he must be worth $1 million a season.

Do you think anyone in the club or who supports the club gives a rats about his B&F ranking.
Are all the players who polled higher also worth $1 million a season?

We're AFL Premiers, I'd say our list management is ok especially considering what other clubs are paying for players (JOM $700k, Wells $600k, Vickery $500k etc).

Love the sooks still whining about Boyd, we love it

Salary does not equal Footballing ability. Key forwards will probably always be the highest payed players. Not really Toms fault he was offered that much money
Happy for him :thumbsu:

Winning the flag doesn't mean Boyd hasn't been overpaid.

How does pivoting to Wells, Vickery et al make any relevant point on that score?

It's more a case of pointing out the obvious.

If you "love it", then that's good too. Everyone's happy.

All depends how you rate worth.
Is a mid worth the same, more or less on what a club needs, and worth at the trade table in order to get them.
Should there be a set wage for all players simply because the value in one persons eyes isn't the same as another, or club v club.
There's a hundred players in the comp who are paid more than their "worth".
When a premiership is the ultimate goal, and is achieved its hard to argue their worth less than what was paid. Ultimately a club is paying all their players to win a premiership, and if that is acheived it can only be money well spent.

You summed it up perfectly e shed. If the Saints win a flag, I will be seriously happy for their many long suffering supporters.
I won't be, and neither will you, if they ever get the benefit of corrupt umpires, in a competition run by an equally corrupt AFL (the only way flags can be won, apparently). I recall well their insufferable behaviour for twelve months after the 1966 fluke. They were so good, according to these ferals, it could only have been the beginning of an all-powerful dynasty. Is there such a phrase as, 'a dynasty of pathetic mediocrity'?

Most fans are great at all clubs, there are ferals at all clubs, and they probably end up on big footy. Which is such a shame, because I joined a forum to share in my love of the game. We all have different opinions but some people are just trolls, bad sports or both.

A commodity of which there is a gross oversupply these days, to the point where to be seen as a good sport means you are somehow a gullible goose. The sad part is that being a bad loser, or even worse, a bad winner, is that this rarely attracts censure, because it seems to be an accepted part of the discourse on boards like this, and in the real, non-electronic world.

This is what happens when an education system operates on the basis that everyone's a winner, and therefore nobody can fail. Sport is meant to be an antidote to such idiocy, and to be a builder of character in the face of disappointment.
