Mind you, his contract has done no damage at all. Not only have we re-signed everyone we wanted to but we've added a premiership winning free agent since Boyd joined the Dogs.

Lot of words in this thread, but I reckon this is probably the most salient point.

Until the Dogs a) fail to resign a young jet, or b) get outbid on a FA that would've added to their team, the dollars that Boyd is being paid is completely irrelevant.

On the contrary, they've made a raft of resignings since the summer, and Suckling, in terms of what he's adding to the team, would be one of the better FA signings of the year.

Yep, this is Koby we are discussing. I think I'll need translation on the second sentence though.....

Sorry. There's a song by Rihanna called "No place I'd rather be"

Are you aloud to copy the link on FB? I'm still working out the rules.

Absolutely. The 'young jet' players (as you put it) are there. Good work.
p.s. be careful with resign and re-sign.

Haha fmd the doggies fans are hilarious
Boyd is awesome Griff is evil. Yet they did the exact same thing. Haha
I honestly don't know how you can't see the difference in the two. Griffen almost tore our club apart the way he left. It was the most disgraceful way a captain has acted besides Carey.

"Trade me to GWS. Also I'm not going to talk to anyone at the club. Also if you don't trade me I'll retire. Thx".

Boyd didn't act anywhere near that.

If he continues to underperform it will not make it easier re-sign players for less than what he is on. There will come a point in the future where his onfield output will be used by player managers. The contract is still in honeymoon season.

You completely disregard what causes this in the first place. Take off the blinkers.

I just wonder how it landed on the million a year. Surely 700k would have been massive overs for a bloke who had been at a club for 1 year. Just seems strange he would get the sort of money when surely s much lower figure would have been acceptable.
This is a really good point. It's something I have wondered. You would have thought 600-700k and he would have jumped at it.

If he was a senior player who walked out I would agree with you but what he did, as CAPTAIN of a club, was treacherous. It's indefensible. I'm surprised you're trying to defend what he did.

He never wanted the captains role but was talked into it, he doesnt posses the character traits to do it. There is some serious failings in the player welfare dept. if they cant pick up on the biggest name on the list being so pissed off he is ready to walk out. Something has gone seriously amiss yet as far as Dogs fans care its all the captains fault yet the footbal dept is in complete dissary.

Ahhhh, but he ACCEPTED the role - didn't he? And with that comes responsibility. Ultimately he is responsible for his actions, no one else. And they were pathetic.

Ahhh, thanks.... Not familiar in any way, shape or form with Rihanna's music.....

And Boyd has accepted a $mill + a year and with that comes expectation to perform at that level. Ultimately Boyd is responsible for his performances and they have been pathetic.

obviously you know it wasn't a swap for 2 first rounders so poor effort at trolling.

"Collingwood has handed over its first round draft picks this year and next, as well as pick 62 this year, in exchange for Treloar and the Giants' pick 28 this year which came from Carlton"

Hmmmm not 2 rounder's huh? And looking at the way you guys are going, this year's pick might be a top 4 pick.... A simple google of the topic would have saved you some embarrasment

So what about the part where he discussed all this with Chris Grant, agreed to come back and work through it and then ran away and hid...... ?? He raised issues, we agreed to try and fix things and improve the situation and he runs away.... Coward....

Some people just want to play footy. Griff walked before McCartney resigned so clearly the improvements were not adequate. Pretty sure its been quoted McCartney was the issue.

Comparing the Griffen situation and the boyd situation is idiotic they are polar opposites.

Griffen agreed to stay and work things out then come trade time had his manager inform the club I'm going to gws or retiring then headed off pig hunting and out of contact.

Boyd asked to be traded to the Bulldogs but if refused he would honor his contract but would not sign a new one and look to leave when his contract is over.

No dogs fan blames Griffen for the clubs issue but they do take offence to how he handled himself, how much disrespect he showed towards the club. He handled himself with not a single bit of integrity

someone call the circus and tell them they've lost their clown.

2 first rounders minus a 2nd rounder doesn't = paying 2 first rounders. A 5yo could see that.

can you keep the thread on topic now pls. this isn't the AT thread.

And that's your opinion, we just choose to hold our captain to a higher standard than our other players. I guess you don't agree. I would have hated to see the inevitable vitriol you would have directed at Scully over recent years. But he's played well this year so it's probably OK

If you buy something for $20 and pay for it with a $50 note, the amount of change you receive does not impact on what you paid. You paid 2 1st rd picks (1 current, 1 future), and a 3rd Rd pick and got back Treloar & a 2nd rd pick.

On the topic of Tom Boyd and Ryan Griffen, 1 was willing to honour his contract, 1 was not. Guess which was which :smirk:

Has Tom Boyd lived up to his pay check this year? No. Does that mean he won't in the future? No. Have we lost any young talent to date as predicted by idiots like Barrett? No. Are Bulldog supporters generally happy that their club made a stand and refused to just lay down and allow GWS to take whatever they wanted? Yes. Did we overpay for Boyd? Most likely.
Why do other supporters care about the salary cap choices of the Bulldogs? So long as we don't breach the cap, it isn't any concern of yours. How dare those uppity little Bulldogs get ahead of their station- they should stay a little minnow who other clubs can plunder for talent. Bad dogs!!!

Its because you are blatantly one eyed.

Both were contracted.
Both spoke to the respective clubs. geting an offer unbeknownst to their cub.
Both demanded to be trwded or they werent coming back.

1 was a club captain but the other was only on his 1st contract pick 1.

Do yes its only your complete bias that doesnt see it as exactly the same.
