At the time I was a big fan. I was excited about the prospect of the Bulldogs finally being a trade destination for a big key forward prospect.

Fast forward 2 years later and I've lost that excitement. There are others his age who are miles in front of him, and personally, I'd be more than happy to offload him and his contract if it meant signing Hurley and another good player.

Dogs fan or not, just a realist point of view.

You know that's 90% of the reason why people call the trade into question yeah?
Mostly Saints fans who, like Carlton, were gearing up for a Boyd bidding war as soon as his second year at GWS was up but we swooped in first.

The alternative is to sit on our hands and do nothing, a situation that cost us in 08-10 when we were legitimately the third best team each season but had no KPF that could stand up in finals.

If you don't care then why are you replying to this thread?

Because I find it hilarious it full or north and saint fans who for some reason have an obsession with any thread dog related.

A dither fans so concerned with us Easton money they feel the need to comment o it weekly. Funny how quiet some were after the Geelong game.

We get it ! You think it was stupid and a waste of money. Ok thanks for your opinion that will really help and even more when we hear it another 7 million times

It's a 7 year contract not even half way through and "people" are calling it?

Lol amusing the amount other supporters worry about us p!ssing our money away and the annoyance they seem to have at it.

And again WE don't care if it doesn't work out. We took a gamble and sometimes they don't work out

It's called a forum .... Where discussion topics are managed in threads. BigFooty is one for football topics.

By your logic BigFooty shouldn't exists

Am I banned from posting on the main board?
Your obsession with a player from another club is a little.... concerning, especially if you can't work out why a Bulldogs fan would be interested in a Bulldog player as per your question earlier.

Didn't realise making a few posts in a thread equated to obsession lmao, what are you on about?

We offered Tom Lonergan $500k per year days before Griffen walked out and he rejected it.
Are you trying to convince us Peter Gordon knows how to manage a list or he knows how to butcher one?

I disagree with your economics and business theories.

Google the word "value". It's how everyone is judged.

Now this may change and his value may in time be commensurate with his income, but right now it's an epic failure.

Btw, I don't have a problem with the decision to punt on him, I'm just providing a current evaluation.
Current evaluation is that it's a long term investment in its early stages.

Why do people expect more of Stringer than Boyd?

He's probably on less than half of what Boyd's getting paid yet he's expected to perform at twice the level.

It's not all about the coin. But based on your argument let's see how your $800k per year recruit goes next year

Just watched the replay with the better half who's a dog supporter.

If Campbell comes back Boyd won't get a game. can't mark it. Doesn't apply pressure and can't find it around the ground.

At least Roughead can mark.

It's easy to say that in hindsight.

There is would have not have been a single person employed at an AFL club that would have taken Wright ahead of Boyd in November of 2014.

Boyd was the best U/18 key forward of this generation. Wright was "only" a top 10 draftee key forward.

The best of his generation? Turn it up

Who is worth that much money then, and were they available at the time?
Can all the people bagging Tom Boyd not see any signs at all? Can't see any potential at all?
If that's the case then you are totally obsessed with the deal and are desperate for him to fail and this is blinding you.
Dogs didn't get him and expect him to dominate straight away because... surprise, surprise - history tells us that the big guys take time.

Tom Boyd is 20. I can't believe people are just so dumb. I guess lack of intelligence attracts the same types. Even if he comes good at 24 the investment has paid off.

There have been plenty of #1 picks who took several seasons to get going. Goddard, Gibbs, Murphy, hell even Hodge was labeled a fail pick in his early years

If it's not affecting our salary cap and we have signed all our young guns to long contracts, what does it matter if he fails or becomes a star? We are in the hunt for Hurley so we obviously ain't struggling for coin and we still haven't paid 100% of our salary cap. Can someone non dogs related actually tell me how and what this deal has done that will hurt us? nobody that I speak to about it seems to have a logical answer. The kid is 20 who played probably his best game last week. How the footy world isn't giving this a rest until he's 22/23 is beyond me, really is amusing.

I've made this post before, but Boyd was more highly rated on the day of the draft compared to every other key forward on the day of their draft on this generation.

I'm not saying for a second it's panned out like that. I'm just saying that Boyd was by and far one of the best number 1 picks for years and the most unanimous, and Wright was merely a top 10 pick with multiple other players rated higher than him, so saying that we had a pick for Wright and not to go after Boyd is just absolutely ridiculous.

This was from Boyd's draft year, after AFL.com.au interviewed recruiters and talent managers etc. and collated their scores by averages

Afl.com.au? Who were the people who gave those figures? Anyway, take away size and it has Hogan on top.

I know a couple of coaches at u/18 level, at the time they thought Boyd wouldn't be a great player because he doesn't have the all round game. They said he lacked agility at ground level.

I think Hogan was rated much higher than Boyd at the time

Yeah plus take away leadership, kicking, strength and speed and Hogan is even further ahead on those ratings. Goes to show how overrated Boyd was in his junior years.
