*cliche alert* Tall players take longer. The likes of Jack Watts and Jordan Roughead came good this season after years of mediocrity :thumbsu:

Hopefully Toyd gets there quicker. He does have to put the score on the board though. A goalless finals series would look bad

Forgot about Crameri, another useful HF option. Gives Stringer and Smith even more freedom to push up the ground.

The Bulldogs don't need Cloke, but I can see why they want him.

Good as the Dogs are they are 55 goals down on Sydney for the year. Currently it reads Stringer 41 goals, Dickson 37, Bont 26, Redpath (not playing) 20 which doesn't look like what you'd expect from a Grand Finalist. If you can add 30-40 from Cloke and 20-30 from Crameri that's a big improvement.

Anyway thread is about Tom Boyd who had 21 hitouts and 14 touches having to ruck most of the game on the weekend after Roughead went off. Got a lot of praise against us (I didn't think he was all that good) and was good again vs the Giants.

for a million bucks a year, you would expect 66 hit outs 44 touches and 6 goals every week. the dogs ****edd this up, it hasn't bitten them yet, but when the current group, transform from handy underdogs to a seriously awesome team, these guys are gunna want there slice. Unfortunatley for them Boyd, Bont, and Stringer will have a majority of the cash. Point is, Boyd, on current output is a 350k player, I kind of think that he has reached his ceiling, what you see is what you get.

We're a win away from being premiers. How on earth could you say we ****ed up if we win just....one....more?

Went to an Age newspaper forum tonight. Emma Quayle spoke about Boyd ... said she was very happy for him this week because he's a very nice guy. Apparently very smart too. She also mentioned that his facebook inbox is just filled with abuse from people he doesn't know. He knew he was gonna cop scrutiny but has been surprised by the level of abuse he gets. She also mentioned his shoulder, she seemed to think his contested marking should improve after he has his reco

What's wrong with people? How would they feel if it was their brother/son/father copping that kind of abuse?

Makes you wonder doesn't it ... he was always going to cop criticism and have pressure to perform, but you have to be a miserable person to abuse a complete stranger because you're jealous of their pay packet

All young guns locked in on long term deals. By the time they expire we would have already frontloaded the vast majority of Boyds contract.

Watched every second.

Never got the sense that Mumford was absolutely dominating (his midfield let him down greatly, and the loss of Ward hurt), but at no stage did I think Boyd was really beating him for any great length of time, either.
THis comment is very strange then: but he also did nothing to nullify his opponent's usual impact and influence.

Not really.

Was just a standard game from Mumford. Didn't absolutely dominate, didn't get nullified either. Just did what he does.

Personally abusing boyd is not on, at the end of the day he signed a deal that the bullies offered, cant blame him. No where near worth that sort of money right now. Still young enough to improve but i have my doubts. Athleticism and speed (physical and mental ie decision making and reaction time) seem to be his major downfalls.

If he puts a stinker in this week against naismith (off the rookie list) and they lose, id suspect there will be more than a few bullies fans wanting blood.

A friend of mine was one of his teachers in high school. He told me you'd be hard pressed to find a more impressive young man. Whether he's worth what he's being paid is another matter.

Don't think there are many 3rd year key forwards in the competition who would be able to hold down ruck duties for almost an entire game on their own against a beast like Mummy in a cut-throat PF away from home. Anyone who talks this effort down doesn't grasp how pivotal it was to the end result.

I don't know any 3rd year Rucks who could do it either.

Well done on repeating BF's cliché for the 857th time.
Our kids have all largely been signed after the Boyd contract - and of course we can 105 this year/next year to bump up our total cap due to the 2015 payments.

Wasn't Cloke on $850k this season which included being dropped to the VFL 3 times? I'd worry more about your list management than ours.

in 3 weeks your welcome to tearing your hair when he fudges one 5 meters out. I think ill leave the worrying to Nathan and boys. Good luck on Saturday I think you might need it.

being a Pies fan,, I have learnt the hard way, just wait and see till the final siren on Saturday. Anyway you cant say the Boyd was the defining factor in the where the dogs are at currently, FFS he was a ressie regular till round 13 or so, and punching on with teammates who were giving him shit over his contract salary. Point is, the price you paid was way too much, guys like him pop up in ever draft.

Not only that but the salary cap will be increased from the new TV rights deal. Bulldogs have timed it perfectly just as Sydney have with Buddy.
