Don't think there are many 3rd year key forwards in the competition who would be able to hold down ruck duties for almost an entire game on their own against a beast like Mummy in a cut-throat PF away from home. Anyone who talks this effort down doesn't grasp how pivotal it was to the end result.

He played a significant game, people who talk his game down don't know much about football I think. Huge factor in the win

Is it that hard to believe that these well paid full time professional list managers may actually have long term plans worked out in a way that they can afford to keep (which of course doesn't guarantee they will due to other factors) their core young stars?

Not only that but the salary cap will be increased from the new TV rights deal. Bulldogs have timed it perfectly just as Sydney have with Buddy.

That's a pretty uniformed statement.
All it means is that all players that are at the 500k mark now will be worth 550-700k, and most lists have their top 8 in that bracket.

Or they can keep their average jo's at 500k and use the rest to pay players like Boys? List managers at good clubs these days are smarter than your average Bigfooty user. Pretty sure they have planned everything accordingly.

I doubt six million dollar man was smart thinking long term, although I do understand it was necessary at the time.

An aspect of Australian culture that makes me cringe - this tall poppy syndrome. Every single person on this site would take the deal he did, he's a well spoken guy and seems really likeable, will be a good footballer too.

Pay packet aside, tracking along nicely for a third year tall forward. Especially when compared to a number of current day established forwards. Has established himself in the Best 22 in a team competing in the GF so must be doing something right.

Both himself have Bulldogs have painted a target on their backs with regard to contract but as has been mentioned above, Bulldogs list managers will have it worked out. That just leaves Boyd to tune out the ridiculous haters and keep tracking. The breakout game/year will come.

Full time professionals "Please" if there all so great and professional, how is it that the tigers have made finals 4 times in 36 years, how have the saints and dogs only won 1 GF in there history, how has Brisbane's list become a rabble from being a powerhouse not long ago. What are these professionals doing right now, searching through videos, boardroom Powerpoint discussions on lists, maybe consulting there myriad of country footy scouts. No I bet most are having a coffee and thinking **** how good have I got it getting paid to speculate on kid footballers and shuffle around players on the whiteboard to achieve a salary cap limit. Every year these guys are replaced without a thought. These guys get paid to play Supercoach, there no mystical shit here.

Yes, but seems to reach fever pitch in ours. And when people flock en masse to a thread to pour over every single little thing that a 3rd year player does or doesn't do in a game of football speaks volumes to the aforementioned tall poppy syndrome.

Already making GF's despite these significant disadvantages and with the added burden of Tom Boyd.....

The Boyd deal has few precedents in world sport relatively speaking. A completely unproven player (and that needs to be emphasised - even Tom Scully had done far more at AFL level than Boyd when he received a massive deal) becoming one of the highest paid players in a league and then being perceived to be a failure would be a massive target everywhere.

Most detractors focus their derision on the Bulldogs and the deal itself, even if a jealous element aimed at a rich young man exists. The abuse hurled at Boyd by and large has little to do with what we would normally associate with any unique Australian tall poppy syndrome in my opinion.
